I still have a hard time with vampires in shoulder pads and new wave haircuts prancing all over the pages. This is so late 80's-early 90's in fashion and everyone is oh-so-fashionable.

And where does Canon live that she has a wardrobe of cool clothes like this? And boots?

Nevertheless, I'm interested in the story. This particular volume was focused on the fact (or fiction) that the vampire that turned Canon may not be the vampire she thinks it is. . . .ah, complications.

Okay, if I can get past the shoulder pads, I can review this book!

I finally had to look at the copyright date. If I saw one more padded vamp I was about to scream. It was written in 1994. That explains it - the beginning of the end of the era of shoulder pads. The dress I was married in (about that same time) is still in my closet and still padded. At least very lightly. But the dress I wore for that year's Christmas party - yikes! (But I digress. . . .)

Yes, Canon is a vampire and she's an unhappy vampire with very broad shoulders (Okay, I can't help myself. I'll try to stop.) She is in search of the mean, evil vampire who made her what she is today. He better watch out, she can really kick some butt! Meanwhile, every time she runs across another vampire, she feels compelled to change them back to human. She has a lot of morals for a recently turned vamp.

She also has a talking vampire crow for a pet. A really obnoxious crow. I have no idea why or how, it's probably in a later story line. So - even though this is not a comedy per se, it's not yet a super serious drama.

I would read another, why not? I'll just have to realize it's like watching an early 90's movie on TV. At least her bangs aren't sticking up a foot off of her head.

Finally done with Canon. The shoulder pad vampire series. The beginning of the story wasn't too bad. There were some interesting characters and some issues to resolve. As the series progressed however, it turned into pretty much non-stop action. Who was fighting who? I have no idea. I think Canon had some weird Stockholm Syndrome thing going. I didn't care for the ending. There's two other stories at the back but I wasn't satisfied. I was confused and I just didn't care.

I feel bad disliking a manga where the author draws herself at the back and asks "How did you like it?"… (meer)

Okay, another volume of shoulder padded vampires with 80's hairdos and pants that are a bit big in the hips and tight around the ankles. It's SO 1990!!!

Once I get past that - and it is SO hard - the story was just okay. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous two stories. Mostly just vampires fighting each other. No real story. And the talking crow barely made an appearance. I need the talking crow just for the comic relief!

So, not much in the way of character development. Mainly just "fashionable" ass-kicking by good looking vampires.

I liked the side story at the end about the falling maggots more than the actual manga.
