This book is interesting. The idea is that there’s going to be a party and all the friends are invited to participate in a talent show, but they have to include their culture with their talent show. The book explains a little bit about of the difference between a racial culture and a home culture. And then uses a lot of words to describe actions that the main character plans on doing in her talent show. Very thankful for the glossary in the back. The illustrations are nice and overall, I think the story is too long. As a way to teach about different cultures I think it’s great. For story time, it’s a bit much.… (meer)

Ameya lived abroad with her parents and went to a wedding in India for the first time. She was both excited and worried about how she would fit in with her extended family. She enjoyed the wedding shopping and the elaborate wedding celebrations. However, she was hesitant to speak in Marathi and Hindi, the region’s local languages, fearing that she would sound odd and make mistakes. So did Ameya talk in her native language? We picked this book for its beautiful cover. The book nicely shows a little girl's self-discovery journey of accepting and sailing in two different worlds. The illustrations definitely score full marks. They captured the essence of an Indian wedding adorably.
