This book is actually two books, [b:The Frankenstein Journals: Feet First|20485872|The Frankenstein Journals Feet First|Scott Sonneborn|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-6121bf4c1f669098041843ec9650ca19.png|32698656] and [b:The Frankenstein Journals: I for an Eye|20485873|The Frankenstein Journals I for an Eye|Scott Sonneborn|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-6121bf4c1f669098041843ec9650ca19.png|32698659], combined into one volume. However, it's not an entire series collection, as the story does not conclude in this volume and, based on the premise, there should be at least a few more stories to come.

I'm generally a big fan of collecting multiple books in a series into one volume, as it makes it easy to follow the story from start to finish. But, in this case, I don't think the combining was executed that well and, except for the cost savings of buying one book instead of two, I actually think the separate books would be better.

The two books have been joined together in what appears to be an attempt at a seamless story: no table of contents denotes the separation of the two books and the chapter numbering is continuous, instead of starting over for the second book. But all the summarizing of the story thus far that's common in later books in a series is still present in the second half of this volume, "I for an Eye." It's quite jarring to be halfway through a book, just starting chapter 10, only to come upon a "Let me remind you" section that reiterates everything you just read in the first nine chapters.

Other than the combination issues, though, this is a cute "thriller" of sorts for young readers, replete with colorful illustrations. Fans of monsters, mysteries, and orphan stories should enjoy The Frankenstein Journals.

Note: I received a digital galley of this book through NetGalley.

So much stuff is going on in Central City all at the same time that even the Flash is feeling rushed, oh, and he has to diffuse an undefusable bomb as Barry too. Could one person be behind all of the emergencies?

Guess it’s a good thing that Flash can think fast as well as run fast. And his fast thinking is put to the test when he goes up against a bad guy who seems to be even more ahead of him.

This was cool. A sort of ‘you don’t have to go fast to be good’, or ‘slow and steady can win the race’.… (meer)

This book managed 3 stars by the strength of end notes alone. Talking points about the art of illustration and a glossary of specific terms made up for the mostly lackluster story.

Apparently Captain Cold isn't the only cold villain in Central City anymore, there's also a guy made of ice, Icicle, who's stealing from banks and trying to steal Captain Cold's thunder.

But, Cold isn't going to let that happen. So Captain Cold decides that he's going to live up to his name in every way possible. He makes a Rhinovirus aka a Cold for everyone to get. But then Icicle starts getting credit for that too and that fact makes Captain Cold even more unhappy.

It was interesting to see the term Rhinovirus used in the book. And I've found that in these serieses that seems to happen a lot. On the one hand, they're for middle graders, but then sometimes they slip in older sort of topics.… (meer)
