Emil Souleimanov is Assistant Professor in the Department of Russian and East European Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. He is author of An Endless War: The Russian-Chechen Conflict in Perspective (2007). He has published widely on the security and toon meer politics of the Caucasus and the adjacent areas of Russia, Turkey, and Iran in journals such as Europe-Asia Studies, Problems of Post-Communism, Middle East Policy, Osteuropa and Politique trangre and provided numerous analyses to the Czech Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense, and NATO. toon minder

Although primarily a theoretical work, the book offers an impressive merger of both theoretical and empiricist approaches, something not often found in books about the conflicts in the South Caucasus. Nevertheless, the book is much stronger theoretically than empirically, as I found the author’s historical analysis rather weak, albeit far from the worst I’ve ever read (that distinction belongs to Heiko Kruger and Kamal Makili-Aliyev!).… (meer)
