An interesting book about a bear who hibernates, only to wake up in a completely different world where he is mistaken as a factory worker. This book definitely requires readers to suspend their disbelief - the bear longs to maintain his animalistic traits, yet he easily goes along with his new role as the factory worker.

A brown bear awakens from hibernation to find that a factory has been built on top of his home. After he is found by a security guard who mistakes him for a factory worker and forces him to work, he tries over and over to convince everyone around him that he is a bear, but no one believes him.

Clever captions combined with frame-by-frame artwork highlight the story of a bear who wakes up post-hibernation to discover that his natural habitat has been replaced by a factory. The bear attempts to adapt to his new surroundings whilst simultaneously insisting that he is a bear. His befuddled bear brain is easily swayed by the perspectives of others, but his bear instincts eventually override the input and he returns his natural state.

I love the idea of helping kids listen to their own "bear instincts" and individuate using this book.… (meer)

This book wasn't terrible, but it wasn't my favorite. It tells the story of a bear who wakes up after hibernation to a completely different world. He questions his surroundings, as well as himself. He loses his identity, but eventually remembers his self-worth. I think my second graders next year would enjoy this book, so I would use it in my classroom.
