- Carla Stevens has kept a diary since she was ten years old, and taught a course about journal writing at the New School for Social Research in New York City. Ms. Stevens lives in New York City and Cornwall, Connecticut, with her husband and cat.
One of the most popular writing classes at the New School for Social Research in New York is "Diaries and Notebooks: Keeping One, Reading Others," taught by Carla Stevens, author of "A Book of Your Own," a children's guide to keeping a diary.
"I think it's crucial to keep a diary," Ms. Stevens says. "It's not just getting in touch with your inner self, but giving yourself a record of who you are, or were at a particular time."

It did not make me cry like the Judith Viorst book or Badger’s Parting Gift.
Death is a part of life and this discusses aging, elder care, death, burial, and cleaning someone’s home after they have died. That’s a lot to pack into a little book and I think it’s ordinariness can help introduce a difficult topic to a child who might never have dealt with it before.
Review from my 12 year old:
“I liked it, it was sad but sweet. I liked the characters.”… (meer)
