This is a very cute version of this story. The art was lovely and the flip ups helped my kids feel involved.

Jess Stockham's has illustrated a bouncy picture book that describes the many noisy vehicles that can be found down by the station. It features die-cut pages that allow for noisy words to be read on each page. Children will love to repeat the noises all the vehicles make.

Summary:
This another adorable adaptation of a classic story! This follows Little Red riding hood on her journey to visit her sick grandma. She packs a basket full of goodies and sets off. The wolf startles the little girl, and goes on his way to grandma's house once learning her destination. Upon arrival, the wolf hides grandma and dresses up like her in attempt to get Little Red Riding Hood. Little Red is saved by a gentleman holding an axe who scares the wolf. She then finds grandma safe and sound.

Personal Reaction:
This such a cute way to get children to interact with the classic stories most generations have grew up on. I related to this story by thinking of all the times my parents told me not to speak to strangers. This helps children understand the dangers, and why it is important to not travel alone.

Classroom Extension:
1.) I could print out paper capes and allow each child to design their own. We would then discuss the importance of knowing when or when not to talk to strangers.
2.) We could prepare our own gift basket and donate it to a sick person in need.

Summary: Little red is going to visit her sick grandmother. She has prepared a basket with bread, cheese, cherries, a teddy bear and a card in hopes that it will cheer her up some. Along her way she stops to pick apples from a tree. But she doesn't know that she is being watched by a hungry wolf. The wolf scared little red when he jumped out in front of her. She told him where she was going and told him to be on his way. The wolf traveled to grandma’s house and climb in through a window. Someone nearby was watching as the wolf climb in the window. Once the wolf was inside, he tied grandma up in the closest. Little red finally made it to her grandma’s house. But when she gets there she is met by a surprise. The wolf is dressed as grandma and tries to fool little red. It doesn't work and the wolf tries to eat little red. But before he can the woodman opens the door holding an axe. The wolf faints, and little red finds her grandma.

Critique: This is a cute little book that has pop up throughout. It is a good book to get children thinking by having them guess what is behind the pop ups. I feel that children will enjoy having this book read to them.

Prompts: Have puppets to act out the book to make it more enjoyable to the students. Have a list of vocabulary words written out to go over with the students.

Craft Element:
Reading- Compare and contrast other versions of Little Red Riding Hood.
Reading- Making predictions. The book is a flip up book. This is a good way to ask students what they think is hiding behind the flip up. And also the way it is set up is a good way to simply ask the students what they feel will happen next in the book.
