Drawing data from local archives, government documents, and interviews with survivors in two southern provinces, this research offers a formal documentation and analysis of the public execution activities in rural China areas during the Chinese Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). This book contributes to the historiography of the Chinese Cultural Revolution with its fresh perspective (i.e., its focus on rural China compared with the urban China) and its bold analysis of the public atrocity during the Cultural Revolution period. Due to the fact that a massive amount of Chinese Cultural Revolution archive is currently still not open to the public, research monographs like this are precious attempts to investigate the Cultural Revolution from multiple angles, although they may sound disturbing to certain groups themselves.… (meer)
