Carla Swafford loves romance novels, action/adventure movies, and men, and her books reflect that. And that’s not all, she’s crazy about hockey, and thankfully, no one has made her turn in her Southern Belle card. She’s married to her high school sweetheart and lives in Alabama.

This is a new author for me, do I have to read another of her books? Honestly I don't think I will or honestly I won't go out of my way to read her when there are other authors that I can't get enough of. OK let clarify, did I hate it? No, but did I love it? Yeah no. There was a lot of issues packed in this book and I wished we got more answers than what we were left with, and normally if I liked a book I wouldn't care if I knew the second books was coming to finish getting our answers but not so much with this.

REVIEW: Jake and Angel are forced to marry by the decree of family wills. I liked that Angel had a tough enforcer role in a shady family. But her feistiness seems to fail her in the bedroom. There was a little conflict between the very independent woman and the downtrodden high school memories for Angel. Overall, this was a great book for the mystery and plot twists. I am looking forward to more in this series. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author and this is voluntary review.

DESCRIPTION, NOT REVIEW: Forget the Hatfields and McCoys, in a small Southern town, the Whitfields and Tallys are the real family feud. So, for some unholy reason, Jake Whitfield’s old man and Angel Tally’s grandfather wrote codicils to their wills the night before they died in a suspicious fire. The codicils require Jake and Angel to marry or lose their inheritances.

Jake feels like a man with two faces. One he presents to his brothers and the public: the criminal willing to step on anyone for a buck while mercilessly protecting the business. The other: the lonely man wanting a better life for himself and his family and working with an FBI agent to make it happen.

To Jake, marrying Angel makes sense. With her family’s help, he can fight the new criminal organization that’s moving into his town. Immersed in the criminal world, there is no hope for Angel, but her brother is still young. She will do anything to protect him from that way of life and whoever killed their grandfather, even marry a despised Whitfield. And Angel never forgot about the sexy incident with Jake in high school ten years earlier. And if she has to go along with a Whitfield-Tally marriage, she wants a replay.

This is the first time that I had read from this author. These were not your ordinary crime family. So we meet Jake whose father had died and for him and his brothers it was good riddance since his father treated them horribly and they were pretty much abused. He finds out that he has to marry Sally Tally in order for him to get money and now is also in charge of Tally's family crime family and be the guardian of Sally's who goes by Angel now, younger brother. Angel claims that she hates Jake but has had a crush on him forever so even though she claims she does not want to marry him jumps straight into bed with him and pretty much stays there, she was supposed to be this badass girl, but the way she was with Jake refuted that, she turned into a weak woman doing everything he says and wants. However even though that part bugged the heck out of me since I like strong heroines I still want to know what happens with Jake's brothers.

Carla Swafford has a breakout with CROSSING THE LINE, the first book in the Atlanta Edge Hockey series.

When I first started reading this story, I wasn’t sure how I would like it. Kitty’s character rubbed me wrong. I didn’t understand why she did the things she did. I didn’t like that she considered herself a puck bunny. She didn’t seem like a stereotypical puck bunny to me. As I continued to read the story, I respected her more and felt bad for what she went through. At times, I felt she was too hard on Roman. She wasn’t blameless in the situation. I liked Roman Volkov’s character. He is a good guy. It was admiral whom he took Kitty in. He made a mistake. He realizes that he took Kitty for granted and tries to make amends.

Carla Swafford did a great job with the plot. It was clever how things played out. The story was thought-provoking and heartfelt. This is the first book that I have read by Carla Swafford. I enjoyed her writing style. I am interested in continuing to follow this series. I recommend this book to people that enjoy sports romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
