I loved this couple and their journey so much. Nicole is so cute and such a good aunt and I love how much effort she put into understanding Kwanzaa so she could celebrate with her nephews and the connection she found to it. The Kwanzaa fair in their town seems super fun and a great community event. Damon is such a good mayor, and his grandpa is my favourite character, with his carving and his side job as a mascot. This story digs into the details of Kwanzaa and what each day means for different people. I enjoyed learning about the specifics of Kwanzaa and felt this book exemplified the values well.

I loved watching them get to know each other while experiencing Kwanzaa, I felt it deepened their connection. I loved the twins’ idea for promises when blowing out the candles and how it tied into the title. I think they both entered each other’s lives at the perfect time and their relationship progressed quickly as a result. It had a great HEA and made me want to read more about the town Damon is the mayor of.
