A good paranormal read. Shaney seems like a real space cadet but Hudson grounds him. There is a good amount of occult symbolism but it keeps the story moving. The story made a jump in the middle that threw me out of the story but once I got passed that the story flowed well again. The story could have used some good editing. Words were missing or misused which was aggravating but if you can get past that, this unusual paranormal romance is definitely worth the read.

I was given Dare to Love Forever by the author through the Goodreads M/M Romance Group’s Don’t Buy My Love program for an honest review. This story is told in third person through the eyes of Carson Locke, a rare Tabula Rosa vampire, a vampire that can wipe other vampire’s mind clean turning them into mindless drones. The other mc is Commander Lincoln Samuels, a Santore vampire, even rarer than a Tabula Rosa vampire; he has the ability to heal other vampires.

Lincoln heads a team of other vampires for the New Jersey Justice Police force for Utica, NY. One night he is called to the scene at a blood bank where Carson has broken in. The reason, he is starving. Almost sentenced to death by one of Lincoln’s men, Lincoln arrives in time to save Carson’s life. Unfortunately Carson is in bad shape, he hasn’t eaten in days and he can’t feed off another vampire else he will erase that vampire’s personality. In the end Lincoln donates his blood at great cost to himself. Feeding Carson his blood causes Lincoln to bond with Carson. He knew this could happen because it had happened before and the book explains the consequences when he did. It seems that Santore vampires are easily connected through emotions if they find a mate, but vampire mates are hard to find.

Lincoln starts out in the story as tough but is attracted to Carson immediately. Once he bonds with Carson, I think he grew weaker. Maybe this was to portray Carson as the stronger one as the story went on. Lincoln often used the word ‘honey’ which came across to me as something a woman would say, and he’d also react to Carson like a mother. So once the two became bonded, Lincoln came across quite often like a female character, especially whenever he used the word ‘honey,’ and for me he lost his authority and power. I found this probably the most disappointing aspect about the book and I couldn’t relate to Lincoln anymore as tough, once that happened. I actually considered him weak.

I found Carson more interesting as his powers grew. I’m curious to find out how much more powerful he will get because he seems like he’s getting to the point of nothing can stop him, and if that’s the case, how does the author plan to continue a storyline where the character is pretty much invincible? I liked the fact that the author had Lincoln the powerful vampire, bottom in the story. I got the impression Carson was not as big or built as Lincoln and someone might mistake him as the weaker one, but his powers made him more dominant and powerful.

The cover doesn’t convey to me the looks of Carson and Lincoln in the story. I’m guessing the guy with the facial hair is Lincoln, and he isn’t as built as he is described in the story. And Carson I believe is in his early twenties? But with the style of clothes he wears and appearance on the cover he looks like he’s a four hundred year old vampire. I don’t like it when the characters on covers don’t look like they’re described in the book. It can ruin a story for me.

I thought the author did a good job of creating an interesting world of vampires and their place among the non-vamps. I also liked the mystery storyline and what appears to be planned out for the future books.

The description was well done, not too much and not too little. I was able to visualize what was happening without any trouble. The writing was a bit choppy and there is room for improvement in making sentences and paragraphs flow together more smoothly however.

I enjoyed this book enough that I would read the following stories in this series. I give this 4 stars.
