This book is not technically a pop-up book, there are no moving parts at all. It is however an amazing example of paper craft with an elaborate laser-cut scene of Clara riding away with her Prince in a snowy wonderland (my favorite!). Exquisitely rendered throughout with foiled borders and Jan Pieńkowski's signature paper-cut silhouettes in glittering illustrations, this is a gorgeous retelling and translation of E.T.A. Hoffman's original story, not the Ballet version. A book to be shared every Christmas season.… (meer)
Beautiful illustrations, really crappy writing. I do NOT like the way the stories were retold at all. Of the seven voyages of Sinbad, the first two were 'retold', the last five were synopsized. I don't think the book was necessarily meant for kids, but if it was, I feel sorry for them. The book is a wonderful book (I've read it in numerous versions to include the Burton translation)m but this is the worst I've come across. The art is a 4.5, the story retelling is a 2....hence, a 3, more or less.
