I love reading about stories connected to the Titanic and this one also involves WWI and WWII, so it has everything and more that I could have wanted wrapped up in one novel. Told through the two women who live eerily similar lives in wanting to always help others, but in doing so have always held themselves back from what they wanted in life. Based on the true Ms. Unsinkable Violet Jessop who survived three large maritime disasters and yet kept returning to the sea. The author packed so much into this story and I loved that it was not just about the Titanic sinking but also about the decades after this in the characters lives and how each historical event affected them. Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for the complementary ebook. This review is of my own opinion and accord.… (meer)

A story about a remarkable woman who survived three ship disasters. This fictional account of a true person, Violet, was well written. The way the timelines converged was interesting. The later time depicted a resistance fighter during WWII, the character of which was based on several real-life heroines. I did feel like I was part of the story and liked the atmospheric descriptions.
Although the stories drew me in and kept me turning pages, I was disappointed in several instances of swearing and taking the Lord’s name in vain. I think they could have been omitted and the story would not have suffered a bit.
Recommended for fans of fictional telling of true instances that took place in history. Just be aware of a bit of swearing.

Sophie has spent her entire life behind the wall that is heavily guarded. On her side of the wall, people are told by the government what they can and cannot do and they are not allowed to go past the wall. Sophie dreams of becoming an inventor like the women she read about in a hidden book but that dream is shattered when she required to spy on her 'sister' to save her mom. Upon finding out about family on the other side of the wall, Sophie starts to think, there can be more to life if she can just get to the other side with her mom. An engaging read based on time during the Berlin Wall and the risks that lead to a possible better life.… (meer)

How could someone be so lucky to survive multiple sinkings of boats including the Titanic?

And how could someone be so unlucky to not have anyone to love her or to rely on, specifically her father?

We meet Violet who is a steward on ships and must keep going back even after the sinkings because she has to take care of her family and all she wanted to do was to make sure her family was taken care of.

We also meet Daphne, who is recruited for the SOE during World War II because she speaks many languages. All she wanted to do was to get some praise from her father for her many accomplishments.

We follow both women in alternating chapters and experience their thoughts, their fears, and their triumphs.

UNSINKABLE shares these two stories of strong women and how they wouldn't give up - therefore both can be labeled "unsinkable."

Violet is based on an actual woman - Violet Jessop and Daphne is a fictional character.

A slow start for me as I was putting the story line together, but Ms. Walsh's wonderful writing style pulled me in for a good read.

The ending was satisfying, and of course I looked up Violet Jessop. 4/5

Thank you to the publisher for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
