An outstanding book, excellently written, focusing on the changes that took place in medicine and public health during and immediately after the French Revolution. Like so many other things, the French Revolution radically changed the way the state administered, the healthcare giver learned and practiced, and the patient experience medicine. Psychiatry, pediatrics, pharmacology, and midwifery all became new specialties as never before; Catholic nursing orders were pushed aside, for better or worse; and hospitals were reorganized on a grand scale. Highly recommended for those interested in the development of modern medicine as well as those interested in the French Revolution and the impact it had on both professionals and the average citizen.… (meer)
