New Powers, Old Secrets, and More Blood...

Two lonely people, each with a secret crush on the other. One a jaguar, the other a wolf. One hates her animal, the other embraces his. A low level jaguar and a powerful Alpha wolf, neither thinks their dream lovers can become real. Neither thinks he/she is good enough for the other...Until an accidental run in, literally, opens their eyes ti possibilities.

Jade's a jaguar in Zach's pack with very little power. She hates being an animal, only shifting on the monthly full moon because she has to. Nicknamed Fraidy Cat, she's afraid of so much, especially those with Power. Her internal complaining about how she's a human, not an animal does get tedious after a while. I just wanted to shake some sense into her.

Sebastian took possession of the Pack from Torin and Torin has never let him forget it. Sebastian has only two friends, Anthony, Master Vampire, and Zach, the jaguar pack Alpha. Zach and Sebastian are roommates with Anthony and also his blood donors. Because of his mind reading ability, Sebastian hates touching people...and others don't want to touch him in case he reads their minds.

Anthony is finding new powers and learning how to use them. He's getting a bit scary now. He's madly in love with Kaia but worries about her because she's human, making her frail compared to the supernaturals.

Torin, the old Alpha, a thorn in Sebastian's paw, continues teasing and taunting Sebastian...it's like he never grew out of middle school games. He even gets other pack members to do the same, alienating Sebastian more. Then Torin tries something new, a truce...a new game or for real??

Ethan is back, with all of his animosity towards Anthony and Anthony not knowing where it comes from. Yet, Ethan helps when it comes to both of their Families. Ethan's not a favorite of mine.

This second book is a good addition to the series. Would recommend reading the first book to get more background to the characters, though each is a stand alone story with its own Happy Ending. Liked the characters changing, adding more depth, not just staying the same. Good storyline here, except for Jade's almost constant whining about being human, not an animal, slowed a few parts down...not necessary to harp on it so much. But then Sebastian had his own mental conversations about his Power, his insecurity about Jade, wondering about Torin...though his felt nothing like Jade's whining.

Fathers, Intrigue, Still More Blood...

Harmony, a lone vampire, has been moving from place to place, looking for that elusive something, but has no idea what it may be. She's strong, has attitude, can take care of herself, carries an arsenal, and drives a really cool Porsche.

Ethan is back, still calling Isaiah to him. Still obsessed with his dead wife, Sonya, and spends a lot of time confused, moody, sometimes can't find the line between the past and what's right before his eyes.

Seth and Nala, vampires with an interesting arrangement, old friends of Ethan and Sonya, and new friends of Isaiah. Traveling to Atlanta with Isaiah after hearing about the way the Master runs his territory. I like these two, especially with everything they've been through.

George, a master vampire, loner living at Wold Woods, was stepfather to Sonya, is pressing Ethan to keep calling Isaiah back.

Anthony is back, with new powers he's still finding out about and now has to deal with his long gone father, a sick Kaia, and injured Kaia, and Ethan. Have always liked him.

Isaiah, vampire who helped found the Atlanta territory with its unique way of life for supernaturals, is on his way back to Atlanta. Not sure I like him...time will tell.

Echo is back...really like her and hope to see an HEA for her in the future.

We get a bit more info about Christopher, Ethan's friend and business partner. Returning for more action are Zach and Sebastian from Anthony's Family and Cory from Ethan's Family.

Really liked this book...it has action, romance and added depth to some of the characters. There's blood and surprises galore. Harmony is a great character; do love her attitude. Ethan has never been a favorite of mine and hate to say I still don't like him that much. The story was original and I love the way most things are handled, but did feel the resolution between Harmony and Ethan was a bit of a let down, though I have no idea how else it could have worked out. All in all, I recommend this book, and the first two books in the series. Looking forward to more...

Betrayals, Lies and Family...

Vince LaRue is a shiftless shifter, a hybrid were-jaguar who has avoided other supernaturals his whole life. His mother, Charlotte, is an Asia-African-American were-jaguar who raised her son to be leering of other supernatural beings, especially shifters. Vince has health problems since puberty, but they are getting worse. Working in the same bookstore where Anthony met Kaia, his boss has been understanding about his health. Anthony recognizes Vince as a shifter and gives him a card with the club address, telling him to go there. Vince is a great character; liked him from the start.

Penny Thomason, a were-coyote, love computers, but doesn't do so well with men, using sarcasm and snarky comments to cover up her uneasiness. She's attracted to Vince when she first sees him, but takes a while to let him get close. It took me a while to warm up to Penny, but do understand why she acts the way she does.

Zach, alpha of the were-jaguars, has returned and we get to see a more serious side to hem. Zach tries to help Vince as much as he can, explaining about the club, the vampires and the various shifter groups, especially the jaguars. I have always liked Zach.

Anthony, the Vampire Master of Atlanta, rules over vampires, shifters and many other supes in his territory. He makes sure Zach knows about Vince and the invitation to the club. He also worries about who's embezzling money from the community, the vampires and shifters. Then there is Kaia, the love of his undead life, who he is certain is keeping something from him.

Kaia, human in love with Anthony, is nervous about going through the change...becoming a vampire.

Charlotte LaRue, Vince's mom, and a full-blooded were-jaguar, has been lying to him his whole life. She was afraid to tell him about his background...who his father was. She works two jobs to get by and with Vine's job they are barely making it. She and Vince have avoided other supernaturals because of something in her past that she never told Vince about...it comes back to haunt both her and Vince. I do understand a mother's love and wanting to protect her children, no matter their age, from all threats.

Ed, a big man, muscled and a shifter is shot by Charlotte when he comes to their apartment. Really like the chemistry here.

The Savannah were-jaguars are introduced. Four brothers and their families, Asian and a tight knit group, ruled with an iron fist by their father, the alpha. Min-Chul is the youngest brother, supposedly quiet, a bit mysterious and rumored to be and enforcer for the pride...interesting character.

Number four in the Forest of Darkness series is a good addition, fitting in with the first three books. Each books adds another dimension/layer to the characters and the world they live in. I like that the characters are not perfect; there are flaws, human emotions and uncertainties, even though they are supernaturals. Although each book is a stand-alone paranormal romance, I recommend reading the series in order as there are characters and a few storylines that will carry over. I plan to continue reading the series with book number five.

This was a new author for me. Her stories are decently paced. You don't get whiplash, but you don't feel like you are missing important pieces. This first book in this series, is about the story of Anthony, the Master Vampire in the Atlanta territory, and the human girl, Kaia. Both of them come into this with secrets, but neither realize the stakes are their hearts. Come to find out, Kaia is also friends with some people intimately in Anthony's circle, but she doesn't know their secret, either. This girl has no clue she is about to enter a world unknown to most. Her friend Ethan is playing a dangerous game, but no one knows the rules but Ethan. You will be introduced to vampires and shifters of all kind in this delightful read. You will see Anthony fighting with himself about how much to tell her, how to tell her, as well as the demons in his past from taking care of his responsibilities as the Master of all the supernaturals in his area. It is a hard burden to bear, but someone has to do it. Anthony does it well, but will Kaia be able to accept ALL that he is, or only the parts he shows her. I can't wait to read the next one and find out more about Anthony and Kaia, as well as figuring out how Ethan will continue to play a part in it.… (meer)
