Author Stanley J. Weyman was born in Ludlow, Shropshire, England on August 7, 1855. Before becoming a full-time writer, he was a lawyer in the family law firm. He was occasionally referred to as the Prince of Romance and wrote fifteen books between 1890 and 1904 that were set in 16th and 17th toon meer century France. Some of his best known novels include The House of the Wolf, A Gentleman of France, Under the Red Robe, The Man in Black, Count Hannibal, and The Long Night. He died on April 10, 1928.
