I loved this overview of the loose period between 1811 till the 1830s. The Regency period is generally considered to be a time of loose morals, hysteria, terrible architecture and novels about manners..,tbc

Why did I buy this book? No impulse purchase, but ordered from ABE. Did I read a reference on a blog that piqued my interest? "Forgotten gem by Cambridge history don"? "One hundred best mysteries with gratuitous inclusion of Roman Catholic clergy"? If so, it has been purged from the Net. Author so forgotten he doesn't even have a Wikipedia entry. Not a total waste of time; country house mystery cum spy thriller. Plenty of evidence of author's day job; for example, we are invited (silently) to mock the lead detective for misattributing "Nihil humanum mihi alienum puto" to Horace. But bigger mystery remains.… (meer)
