Amos N. Wilder (1895-1993), New Testament scholar, poet, literary critic, and clergyman, received all earned degrees from Yale. His teaching career included posts at Andover Newton Theological School, Chicago Theological Seminary and the University of Chicago, and Harvard Divinity School. Special toon meer honors included the Golden Rose of the New England Poetry Club (1943) and the Brass Prize (1952). Wilder also received the Croix de guerre for service in World War I. - Amos Niven Wilder (1895-1993), was a pastor, poet, teacher, and theologian. Born in Calais, Maine, Wilder was educated at various institutions including Oberlin College (1913-1915), Mansfield College (1921-1923), and Yale Divinity School, where he received his Ph.D. in 1933. Ordained in 1926 as a Congregational minister, he served as pastor of a church in North Conway, New Hampshire. He also taught at Hamilton College, Andover-Newton Theological School, and Chicago Theological Seminary. He first came to Harvard University in 1954 as a New Testament scholar, and was the Hollis Professor of Divinity from 1956-1963. Wilder published several books on religion, poetry, and the arts. In college Wilder was a champion tennis player, and he competed at the Wimbledon tournament in England in 1922.
