George F. Will writes a twice-weekly column that is syndicated in over 450 newspapers and a biweekly column in Newsweek. He has received several awards including the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary, the Bradley Prize for Outstanding Intellectual Achievement, the National Headliners Award, and a toon meer Silurian Award. Five collections of his Newsweek and newspaper columns have been published and he has written several other works including A Nice Little Place on the North Side: Wrigley Field at One Hundred. This is a sometimes interesting exploration of the history of Wrigley Field, and the Cubs, not really organized around anything except a loose exploration of the thesis that the Friendly confines are themselves to blame for decades of legendary baseball futility. Sometimes this is interesting and sometimes it just reads like long ruminations that didn't get into the Sports section. If you like the Cubs, this will be interesting, but I'm not sure it will appeal to everyone else, even other baseball fans.… (meer)

Loved this look at the different elements of the game. It rewards the hard-core baseball enthusiast.

Very thought-provoking book. I don't profess to be nearly as intelligent as Mr. Will, but having read the Federalist Papers and John Adams' biography, I wonder if the Founders were more concerned with limiting the power of the executive than the legislative (although, as Mr. Will points out it has been the legislature that has enable the expanded executive branch/administrative state).
