A father/son story, from birth to high school. It's about awkwardness, missed cues, a lonely son, a clueless father — which strike me as real — and a happy resolution. A deft writer who knows how to make a point with a light touch and then move on quickly. Published in 1923. Nothing deep and hairy, it's somewhat glib and very professional. Is it a short novel or a long story? I dunno. Novella, then.
