The principal war correspondant of the Boer War,aside of Wnston churchill, Henry wilson wrote this quite readable account of the South African war. The war introduced the term and practice of the "Concentration Camp", as a step in the ending of the guerilla period of the conflict. The Boers did begin the war, but the British were perfectly happy that they had, as the gold and diamonds of the continent were added to the Imperial GNP. While you do not end up liking either party to this struggle very much, it is an interesting desciption of the open field warfare which was ended by WWI.… (meer)

This was originally a set of magazine style monthly publications covering the Boer War, from the London Times, in 1899 to 1901. There are many colourful engravings, and maps. the prose is clear but very pro-British, as is to be expected.

Hard Cover. Book Condition: Fine. First Edition. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. 13 volumes beatifulluy bound and in top condition. There is some minor bumping to spines and edges. Contents and covers are in splendid condition. There is a little foxing to fly leaves. Thousands of photographs, maps, diagrams and some lovely colour plates. Rare to find this 13 volume set in such a clean and tight condition.
