Epidemic : Ebola and the global race to prevent the… door Reid Wilson
Wilson's Epidemic is more informative and less dramatized than other Ebola books. Some of the takeaway sections about poor government responses to epidemics certainly hit close to home these days though.
A useful reminder that parents don’t do kids any favors by trying to remove all sources of anxiety (or, as a friend of mine said, heralding the kid’s arrival by announcing ‘hark, here comes an anxious kid, be careful’). Instead, the authors advocate helping the kid accept uncertainty as a part of life, just as we must do in some situations as adults. Not exactly the situation I’m in, but still a bunch of helpful advice about how to talk about challenges.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and give my honest review. Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents is a must read if your child is anxious. The authors help parents to understand how their own daily habits and coping style and the desire to protect our children from stress and worry may actually contribute to the onset and degree of their anxiety. There are some great strategies for both children and parents in this book. Overall, this book is a great tool for parents and professionals. I'll be adding it to my 'lending library' in my practice.… (meer)
