I didn't read the whole thing (I did skim the other chapters) but this book is just not useful to adults with dyslexia. I read the first two chapters, explaining the basics, then the chapters on adult dyslexia and dyslexia in college but I found no information useful in the other chapters. In addition, much of the context was country-specific (only applicable to the US). All I got out of it was a website I intend to look up. It is not that no one will benefit from this book, but clearly it was the wrong book for me.… (meer)

Personally I felt like there was too much information overall - it would be easier to digest the information if it had been presented in a more streamlined fashion - but I can see other readers enjoying the more chatty feel of the book.… (meer)

I think many of these exercises might be useful for some kids, but this is a very specific and time consuming program for teaching reading one-on-one, and in most families is likely to push actual reading off the time plan. At the very least, the chapter near the end on chosing books ought to be right up front.

Also, there seems to be the assumption that the child will work with lists in the book. Besides the problem with marking up the book, the font is too small for young readers, and many of these tables are split over two pages making copying them a problem. I also found that the vocabulary was sometimes more obscure than I would have thought suitable for 5-7 year olds. (I currently work with 6-10 year olds on reading in a school environment, and find that many of the children don't know the words they are expected to read.) All of this even if a list of 220 words that have to be read by sight isn't a bit daunting even for an adult who reads well...… (meer)
