I was so happy to get the latest volume of my current favorite manga from the library, but then I was shocked and saddened to see "final volume" on the back cover. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

All I really needed to see was the inside of the front and back covers to be ecstatic. The rest of the book was fine -- there was plenty to squee about -- but those two images just sum up the whole series for me.

Well, now I'm back on the hunt for a new stupid fun shojo . . .

Just a couple days ago I knocked another manga title for just going through tropes, but when this book does bits like a part-time job with a maid uniform and a class play with cross-dressing at the school cultural festival, I just simply get all squee. I love every character here and will gladly watch them do every cliche the author wishes to bestow upon me.

The drama drops a notch as the focus shifts first to the cliffhanger from last volume for two of the side characters and then to an entertaining but tropey sports day/illness aside.

Most of the book is devoted to a flashback explaining the unlikely romantic relationship in junior high between Tomo's love interest and her best friend that was revealed in the first volume. Good stuff, funny and well-executed, but combined with the first two stories it gives the volume a placeholder feel.

The bonus story is predictable but remains hilarious due to the body language and facial expressions.

A lighthearted slumber party and a romantic night at a fireworks festival get things off to a jolly start. But then the bullies from Vol. 2 return to get revenge on Tomo and Jun and see an opportunity to take it out on two of the duo's weaker female friends. Excitement ensues, of course, but the true drama unfurls in the aftermath as dominos start to fall and its revealed that the biggest threats to Tomo and Jun's romantic future have been lurking inside their friendship group all along.

Throw in terrific appearances by Tomo's mom and dad, and this is the best volume of the series yet. Much LOL and shouting of "Oh, no, she didn't!!" on my part throughout.… (meer)
