1892 Boston and two females have been murdered. Both were residents of Betram's Bower a safe haven for fallen women. The home is run by Agatha Montgomery, and her brother Rev Randolph Montgomery involves himself with the fundraising. Friends to Agatha, brother and sister Addington and Caroline Ames carry out their own investigation.
An enjoyable read with its likeable characters

An extremely well written book about a dark period in American history for the American worker: the early industrial revolution. Days were excruciatingly long and the pay hardly enough to live on. This is the story of a young women who works in an American textile factory whose courage and hope is an inspiration for any woman who works at a low paying and unfulfilling job.

I found this book to be interesting, thoughtful and quite historically correct. In view of what recently happened in India, of the collapse of the garment factory in which hundreds of people were killed, this is a relevent and timely book that gives us a glimpse into a world that sadly somewhere still exists.… (meer)
