A wonderful look at the life of one of history's forgotten princes. Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, was the only one of Queen Victoria's children to suffer from hemophilia. As such, he was closely guarded by his mother and it was with great misgivings that he was allowed to do all that he did. Leopold was supposed to live the life of an invalid. However, he was not afraid to fight his mother's will. He went to Oxford, cultivated friendships with people such as John Ruskin and Charles Dodgson (real name of Lewis Carroll, who penned Alice in Wonderland), and eventually married and had a family.

Leopold's all too brief life is chronicled here with eloquence. Zeepvat brings us closer to understanding a man crippled by illness, yet full of life.

This is one of the best books i have read on the decline of the Romanov family. Zeepvat discusses some minor members of the family not given treatment in other volumes. Additionally the book is a powerhouse of information and anecdotes about the family, many of which were new to this reviewer. A must read for all interested in the Romanovs or British/Russian royal history.
