Geoguessr Challenge Group
A monthly challenge game from GeoGuessr. All LT users are invited to play.
The basic idea of GeoGuessr is to guess where you have randomly been dropped on the globe using Google's Map facility and street view. The drop location is where Google has mapped the area (almost everywhere) and where Google has done the taping work for street view (most everywhere, but notably not including some areas in Asia, Africa and South America). There are five drops to a game. Obviously, the closer your location guess is at the end of each of the five drops, the higher your score will be.
Using Google search, Google translate, etc will help your searching.
Initially, the games will start on the 15th of each month and your result is due on or before the last day of the month. Please report back to the group with your score and any pithy, sarcastic or humorous comments you want to make on your wanderings. You will find that, after playing a while, you will be a whiz at recognizing deserts in Australia, small towns in Brazil, country lanes in Scotland and Russian apartment buildings.
Let's do this alphabetically using the LT names of people that played the last monthly round for the subsequent round. In other words, if timsbooks, booksonhistory, smithbooks, jonesbooks, littlebooks, and johnsonbooks played the last round which was set up by johnsonbooks; jonesbooks would set up the challenge starting the 15th of the following month.
The website is geoguessr.com if you want to play a few by yourself first to get an idea of how it works.
