Advertisement text (same text on 22 and 29 May): "To be Sold by Auction on Tuesday the 30 of this Instant May, at the Royal Exchange in Boston, a Collection of Curious & Valuable Books part whereof were the Library of Capt. John Gore, deceased. To begin at 4 a Clock in the Afternoon. The Books may be view'd 3 days before the Sale at the House of T. Fleet in Savage's Court in Corn-hill, opposite to the Rain-bow Coffee-house, where Catalogues may be had Gratis, as also at most Booksellers, and the Place of Sale."

Died of smallpox after an Atlantic crossing, the news of which was withheld for several weeks lest it cause a panic. Thomas Prince called him "a Gentleman of very good Parts; of great Industry, Knowledge, Prudence and Courage: He excell'd in Philosophy and Mathematical Learning: of admirable immoveable Piety; Ingenious; Free and Chearful in Conversation; Sincere, Generous, Modest, Humble; a great Honour to his Country ..."
