This ruined castle, located outside of Cahirciveen, County Kerry, was a lot of fun to explore! I spent three months hiking all over Ireland, but I think the time I spent in Cahirciveen was the happiest. I got into town at the tail-end of a céilidh, and there were still some great musicians playing the pubs. The local hostel was comfortable and friendly, the town wasn't overrun by tourists, and there were some great sights! In addition to Ballycarbery, there were two Iron Age ring-forts nearby, Cahergall Fort and Leacanabuile Fort. Just off the coast were the astonishingly beautiful Skelligs...
