Upon his death, Dr Staunton donated his collection of books to the Dublin Neurological Society. a diverse and extensive one encompassing not only medical texts, but also literature on physics, linguistics, psychology and neuropsychology and dream studies. The library comprises 245 books in total.

Dr Hugh Staunton was a former eminent clnical neurologist.

He began his career by studying in Dublin. He went on to work in the University of Edinburgh where he published many papers and obtained his PHD. He then spent a number of years in The National Hospital, Queen’s Square in London, followed by the Max Planck Institue in Frankfurt. He returned to Dublin in 1970 to work as a clinical neurologist in Beaumont Hospital and the Mater Hospital and took an academic interest in a variety of neurological topics, including amyloidosis, epilepsy surgery and definition of anatomy by brain imagine, headache and language. During his time in Dublin, he was the dean of the Richmond Institue for Neurology and Neurosurgery, a clinical lecturer in the Royal College of Surgeons and was editor of the Irish Medical Journal from 1983 to 1986.
