Larry Gogan (1934-2020) disc jockey (DJ) and broadcaster from Dublin.


Larry Gogan always wanted to be a DJ and got his first break in the sixties at RTÉ. He was one of the original line-up of DJs on RTÉ Radio 2, which later became 2FM, and was the first presenter to play a record on the station when it went on air on 31 May 1978.


He presented ‘The Golden Hour’ and ‘The Larry Gogan Show’ and became famous for the ‘Just a Minute Quiz’.


On television, he hosted the National Song Contest in 1980 and provided the RTÉ commentary for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1978, 1980, 1981 and 1982.


Throughout his career, he received many awards for his work and contribution to Irish music including a Jacob’s Award (1986), IRMA Milk Music Award (1987), the IRMA Honours Award (2005) and the Industry Award at the Meteor Awards (2007).


Larry Gogan left RTÉ 2FM in January 2009. He then began a show on the digital station RTÉ Gold.
