NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies
Over mijn bibliotheek
NIOD’s library contains over 65,000 titles about war, the Holocaust and other genocides.

The heart of the library consists of publications about the Netherlands and the former Dutch East Indies during the Second World War. This also includes local and regional studies, and publications about the Persecution of Jews.

In addition, NIOD has an extensive collection of books about the Second World War outside of the Netherlands, including material about the run-up to and the aftermath of the Second World War.

There is a growing collection of books and journals about extreme war violence and genocides in the 20th and 21st century.

In addition to books and (digital) journals the library collection also includes newspapers, (airborne) leaflets and illegal magazines from the Second World War, university theses, DVDs and a large collection of thematically ordered newspaper clippings.
Over mij
NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies was founded on 8 May 1945, three days after the liberation of the Netherlands, to map the history of the Second World War in the Netherlands and in the former Dutch East Indies, through independent research. In the following decades the institute has developed itself into a knowledge centre about the effects of war, the Holocaust and other genocides on individuals and society.

Since 1 January 1999 the Institute is part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
