- Over mijn bibliotheek
These are books I've collected throughout my life, including a collection of books that belonged to my father, my mother, and my maternal grandmother, plus a few other family members. I'm an artist, a writer, and researcher. For the past 25 years I've mostly focused on researching the history of my family in the Deep South, on Southern history, and on the history of African Americans in the 19th-century South. And I've also studied or been intensely interested in Irish history, art (especially Early Christian and Medieval), architecture; the art, history and culture of pilgrimage; Southern Pentecostalism and related culture; feminism, lesbian and women's culture in America, oracles, Western European mythology, archetypes; New Age and neo-pagan ideas; fairies and fairy tales; art-making including quilting, embroidery, dolls, and puppets. Also books about 18th- and 19th-century naturalists; and about writing of all kinds, books of poetry, and essays. A few special fiction books (especially cozy mysteries), but not many. I recently began a collection of "read but unowned" books, particularly those I read growing up, which includes several "banned" books (most of those recommended by my parents). I try to provide a citation for the information on banning.
- Over mij
In my work life, I'm a communications specialist for an academic art department. I'm also the assistant editor for Muscogiana, the journal of the Muscogee Genealogical Society, based in Columbus, Georgia. I have degrees in studio art, art history, and library and information studies. When not at work, I research and write about Southern history, especially the history of my ancestors, and embroider, quilt, and paint (and catalog books).
