* List: Frequently sought stories - Name that Book group
* Frequently Sought Stories list on Name that BookBook Search TipsGoogle Books advanced search
That's useful to bookmark. If searching for children's books I try 'juvenile fiction' in the subject field, and try to get a year range. On Google Books a lot of texts are now searchable, showing snippets (or previews for some), and you can often find reviews, which helps in finding content.

WorldCat.org advanced search
Use the narrow the search options if possible, that helps limit the search. Eliminating anything other than Books (without the subformats microform, ebooks, etc.) also helps reduce results, unless you're after an audio book or other format. Remember sometimes library records don't state those things, so try without some limits such as Juvenile, for broader results if initially unsuccessful. WorldCat search results are limited to whether they have subject headings or not, whether they have a summary or not. These are library records. More accurate a source than Amazon.com but some are not always accurate, I've found. Check multiple sources. To find plot summaries, check Google Books, ebay, etc. See the Google Images site to find book covers, or try other sites.

It depends what keywords are used in reviews and in the book and in book summaries, as to whether a book comes up in search results. Yes, do write out and post your query -- even if you find the book yourself after posting. Been there, done that, sometimes after several years of searching. Writing it out helps make clear the keywords and parameters you could use. Take a break from searching too, as you often use different tactics when you resume.

ACCESS PENNSYLVANIA
Sometimes I try this library catalog. Not always successful but often has plot summaries and subject headings.

Google search suggestions
- To get a Kirkus Review if there is one to check details, enter title and author of the book and kirkusreview. Note: These reviews can be negative and contain spoilers. Try to ignore that. Whether you like a book or not is highly subjective and can be influenced by grew-up-on-it sentimentality. Re-read childhood books. Many people do!
- Enter keywords and the word loganberry, which is one of the book search sites. An interesting site to browse, may or may not help with searches. Great for children's books.

The below are potentially useful. You may be able to find reviews via Google.
- School Library Journal
- CM Magazine (Canadian review of materials) has a search feature.
- The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books
I haven't searched this site nor tried searching keywords with it on Google, but others have found reviews from it.
- Publishers Weekly
- Try National Library catalogues such as for Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc. may not be helpful but worth a try. Some library catalogues are very limited in what information they provide, and they're often not the first place I tend to look.
- Ebay (often has plot summaries and book covers).
- Amazon (sometimes people find its search useful; you can find books using Amazon, book and keywords in a Google search, and you may find Amazon listmania book lists helpful).
- Try posting on more than one book search forum (abebooks BookSleuth, goodreads, loganberry, livejournal's whatwasthatbook, whatsthatbook.com).
- Try finding book topic lists via Google. Many public libraries maintain such lists.
- Game Books website
- Enid Blyton books
- Vintage Scholastic
- Scholastic Books ebay collector guides (near the bottom are various vintage Scholastic prefix lists linked)

You can find used books via bookfinder.com, addall.com, eBay, your public library, or similarly you can borrow to read from openlibrary.org (free to join and "Borrow" or "Read" ebooks, which are scans of actual books).
