Our library serves the many scholarly and spiritual needs of the monks and students in our community and reflects those needs in its collection. It has recognizable strengths in monasticism and monastic spirituality, all areas of theology and in philosophy. Our catalogue will also provide access to an increasing amount of open source electronic resources in those areas available online.The Sylvestrine Benedictines also have monasteries and libraries in Italy, Australia (http://opac.libraryworld.com/opac/home ), Sri Lanka (http://www.librarything.com/profile/Montefano), in the United States, The Philippines and in the D.R. of Congo.

St. Joseph's Monastery, Makkiyad, is a Conventual Priory of the Sylvestrine Benedictines established in 1962 in the Wyanad District in the north of Kerala. Our community conducts a number of schools, provides spiritual direction and retreats and provides a three year course in philosophy for future priests in its community and other seminarians in the region.
