Over mijn bibliotheek
I have a Saul Bellow shelf that includes pretty much everything he ever wrote, and his collected letters, and his collected interviews, and James Atlas' Bellow biography. You get the picture.

There's a journalism shelf with books by A.J. Liebling, Ben Hecht, Calvin Trillin, Sidney Zion, Mark Singer, Seymour Krim, Tom Wolfe, Norman Mailer. The comedy shelf has Woody Allen, S.J. Perelman, and a great rare book called Zero Mostel Reads A Book.

And there's Samuel Johnson, lit crit by Robert Alter, The Encyclopedia of New York City, Dan Wakefield's New York in the 50s, modern poetry anthologies and Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, Dickens, Great Russian Short Stories, A Treasury of Yiddish Stories, and The Complete Cartoons of the New Yorker (almost too heavy to lift).

What else? Okay, how about coffee table books. My New York interest led me to the work of the great printmakers Louis Lozowick and Howard Cook and Martin Lewis and John Sloan and I have books of their works.

Over mij
My biography of 1960s song parodist Allan Sherman is due out in May 2013 from Brandeis U. Press.

Overweight Sensation: the life and comedy of Allan Sherman will be the first biography of the man behind three of the greatest comedy albums ever made -- My Son, The Folk Singer, My Son, The Celebrity, and My Son, The Nut.

Special features include 25 photographs and the lyrics to more than 20 lost song parodies from his youth, college years, and pre-fame 1950s when he wrote his Jewish parodies of the Broadway musicals, including his fantastic "Seventy-six Sol Cohens" and "There is Nothing Like a Lox."
