Over mijn bibliotheek
Alas, my personal library is small when compared to some of my fellow librarythingers. Were time, resources and square footage unlimited, my libary would be vast. As it is, my little library consists of mostly literary fiction, some classic fiction, some biography, and Jewish topics. I have a large collection of art/craft books which I have not yet cataloged. I buy many of my books at used book sales. I cannot read chick-lit, or bodice-ripping romances. I guess I am too old for those. I do love Science Fiction (Asimov), but own little of it. I buy a book with the intention of reading it more than once. My cataloged books are mostly books I own, and books I have borrowed from the local public library. I have great respect for my books, treat them tenderly and guard them closely. My CD collection consist mostly of New Age music for its atmospheric qualities. Favorite authors: John Steinbeck, Margaret Atwood,Susan Howatch, Joyce Carol Oates. Favorite books right now: The History of Love, The Thirteenth Tale, Away by Amy Bloom, Broken For You, The History of Love, The House At Riverton, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Cider House Rules, I Know This Much Is True.
Over mij
I am a native New Yorker, raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Crown Heights Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Long Island. Retired NYC teacher. Graduate of NYC's High School of Music & Art, aka the "Castle on the Hill". Graduated from CCNY and took my Masters at Queens College. Married another NYC native in 1970. We are recently relocated to Raleigh NC. I cannot do without reading. I must take a book with me wherever I go. I have attended funerals with a book tucked under my arm. I read at red lights. When I travel, I have more trouble deciding which books to pack than which clothes to pack. I swoon in libraries and bookstores, and the scent of paper intoxicates me. I would rather buy a book than a pair of shoes, ergo my wardrobe is pathetic. What I love besides books: New Age Music, Manhattan, my 4 grandchildren, writing in my journal. I paint in watercolors, design stationary, do some artistic rubberstamping. I crave a neat and orderly house. I cannot bear clutter. I am a lousy cook. I cannot sew a stitch, knit, or golf. I am terminally ill, so I don't have time to waste on books that don't hold my interest. Also I recently got a Kindle and absolutely love it as an adjunct to 'real' books. I'm hoping for lots more time to read, do art, embrace my four grandchildren.
