I'm sitting here reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series that I just started and am really enjoying. I'm almost done with the first book so of course I check 2 of my library sites to see if they have the next in the series. Of course not. I hate when libraries only have some of the series because it seems like it's either just the first one and then skips a couple of books and then the rest. Or else it's just the last one which if I know it's part of a series I refuse to read out of order. Anyone else have lil quirks about their local library that drives them batty?

I've had to interloan books & it is frustrating to wait for the books to arrive.... and arrive in the order I want to read them.... which is in the written or chronological order.

See if your library can interloan the books for you...

The reasons that some libraries don't get the books is that budgets are getting cut to the bone....

and then there is the perception that "those books" don't have literary value....

... how's about entertainment value, then????

#1 and #2

If I interlibrary loan, I do it one at a time to get it in the right order.

There are some giveaways that make reading this set in the proper order best. And, except for one that was slow and boring, the rest were very good. (Don't know about the newest - my friend hasn't brought it yet.)

Not a quirk so much as a total annoyance. I am barred from our local libraries, can't get a card. Apparently when I was 17 I took out a book on business studies and never returned it. At 17 I was studying English Literature, Art and History. Never have had or will have any interest in business studies. And it was at a library in the same education board area but waaaay out of the area where I live. I have complained, huffed and put my point across but after 5 years I give up.

I share your annoyance with missing series entries, honeydew69862004. I'm exceedingly thankful that I have access to interlibrary loan that's free, and I use it heavily. Unlike fdholt, I tend to ILL at least 2 at a time, since I read quickly enough that if I only get the book I need, I've finished it long before the next in sequence arrives.

As irksome as series gaps are though, from a budgeting perspective, I can see where the dilemma is. Popular books, and Ward's books definitely fall into the high demand category, wear out fast, get lost/not returned, etc. quicker. But do you spend your money getting enough copies of the newly in-demand titles that the hold lists don't last for months and alienate all your clamoring patrons, or do you replace the lost/damaged/worn out copies of the older books that are going to get demanded less often....

It's a huge juggling act, and one I don't envy the PTBs having to constantly consider.

I have tried ILL once with my local library which gives you so many a year that a free, but it never came in. I'm figuring that the librarian forgot to order it. Two of my other libraries cost about three bucks which I know isn't alot but I'm on such a tight budget that I can't justify it to myself to spend that much on a loan book. My other two libraries I'm hardly ever in town when they are open. Yes you counted right I'm a member of 5 libraries and proud of it.

I'll probably try my local library again once I get to that point or hope that the book is an ebook that I can borrow.

My own pet peeve is my local library's b0rked catalogue which tells me there are no reservations on the book I'm interested in, right up until I've placed my hold and I suddenly discover I'm 26th in a queue of 26. Sigh.

7 - Or when you place a hold request via the catalog, but are never contacted and eventually ask, only to be told, "Sorry, we only take paper hold requests. We don't use the catalog hold feature because our patrons can't figure it out." Ummm.... okaaay....
