I've done it before... but never online! I just kept a list at the back of my journal.

So far I have:

1. All the President's Men
loved it - heard the sequel is not as good so I'm not going to try and find it. What a huge break for these two young journalists! It's hard to imagine what America would've been like without Watergate... maybe a safer one?

2. watch over me
A brand new author who I wanted to try... there are a lot of Christians in my family and they are all readers so I'm passed quite a few books that don't match up with my beliefs. That said, this one was very well written and did no Bible-bashing. She has one more out and another one coming out next year and I hope to be able to read those as well.

3. size 12 is not fat
I signed up for the Library Thing secret santa and won't be doing that again. Never heard from the person I picked books for and don't expect to - she wanted Japanese books and linguistics and science fiction - all books I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. I apologized to her in my message and said I would be happy to use my bazillion bookmooch points to find her something more appropriate but nothing.

I provided my picker with a wishlist which she ignored. Sigh. This was one of the books she picked and the only one I'll read. It was actually very entertaining. Meg Cabot is the "princess author" in my house but her new heroine, Heather Wells, is a lot of fun and believable. I wouldn't give it 4 stars but I added the other books in the series to my list!

Oh dear, I'm sorry the Secret Santa didn't work for you. It's a great idea, but you do have to be in sync with the recipient you're given! And as we all know, every reader is quite different.

Welcome to the group!

I tried it out, it didn't work. I think we were matched up because of being some of the very few Canadian members, not based on our inventories. I still feel horrible about the person I got... I tried to find the exact type of anime she likes but I was overwhelmed... oh well, you gotta try it before you know!

Thanks for the welcome! Looking forward to discovering new authors!!!

I quite enjoyed Size 12 is not fat. I enjoyed it enough to follow it up with Size 14 is not fat either! It was good fun.

Welcome. I had a mixed experiance with SantaThing. My gifts were really good but I found choosing very difficult plus it was exacerbated by the problems with book depository, as she didnt even get what I had chosen :(

A friend actually recommended "A Size 12 is Not Fat to me and I was really reluctant to read it, since Meg Cabot isn't really my thing, but I LOVED it. It actually got me hooked on that sort of chick lit cozy mystery type of genre, and I continued on to read A Size 14 is Not Fat Either and Big Boned, as well as the beginning books of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series.

Oooo, I'm dying to read a size 14 is not fat either but I'm being patient and waiting for it to come up on my wishlist at book mooch. The last time I was in our used bookstore, they had a couple of copies of big boned so hopefully no one will grab them in the meantime!

4. third form at st clares was finished tonight. I read it to my oldest, 7-year-old twins. They adore it. I was surprised that it was not written by Enid Blyton since she wasn't alive in 2000 but you wouldn't have noticed it from the style. I also noticed a few borrowed plots from other books but I kept them to myself! The girls love the idea of boarding school and midnight feasts so there's no need to burst their bubble!

Mr Bear (8 years old) had a similar reaction to Hogwarts. He's not completely convinced about leaving the family, but loves the idea of one big giant sleepover. (And magic.)

I went out of town unexpectedly on Thursday with a good number of members of my husband's family. His sister-in-law gave birth 7 weeks early to their first child, Hailey, and she is doing much better than we had hoped but could still use positive thoughts sent her way!

Lots of time for reading as I had a lot of hands to help out with my children!

5. The Telling and 6. The Missing
I found that I knew the ending by the first 100 pages of book 2 of the three book series and so to finish the stories were excruciating. I've liked others by Beverly Lewis so I was disappointed.

7. the mailbox
Again, I saw the ending before I was halfway through the book; always disappointing. The writing style was not polished either.

8. sticks and stones and 9. days and hours by Susan Meissner.
I read the first book in this series eons ago and was not disappointed by the next two. They were solid stories with nice twists and well-developed characters. The Christianity was not over-the-top but appropriate to the plot. I'm sorry that Meissner seems to have moved on from these characters because I would like to read more about Rachael Flynn.

10. inked
This was recommended to my aunt on her goodreads.com site but I found it very disappointing. I realize that not all books can start (or end) with sunshine and ponies but this one went out of its way to stay as depressing as possible. If you are truly interested in the story of someone suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder, I would recommend the book get me out of here. My husband has suggested it for quite a few of his clients and he hasn't been disappointed yet.

11. never been kissed

Not bad for the junior high set. My first fictional book that wasn't a crime/mystery novel dealing with "sexting".

This is been a long, cruel winter. Between illness, car trouble and too much snow, everything went to a dead stop. But the good news is that Aunt Jen is moving into a nursing home May 1 and this house will be sold and we have purchased a lovely home near where she will be living. Packing will be the death of me!

But I did some reading:

12. this body of death

I love Elizabeth George... but I wish she would throw us a few more bones with her core characters. I want to see Deborah and Simon move forward with the "children" issue and I felt so bad for Barbara... I reread the first couple of books in the Lynley series and she wasn't nearly so raggedy as she is now.

13. blink

I'm not a big fan of Ted Dekker but it arrived here via family so I popped in... I was surprised how good it was! Someone smarter than me could probably find some mistakes because it's not easy to write a character who can see the results of all possible actions beforehand but it was entertaining!

14 a certain justice

My first John Lescroart book - it's an author I wanted Aunt Jen to try and she enjoyed it (don't tell her she read them out of order). The plot was very interesting and while I couldn't quite picture the characters in my mind, it kept me guessing.

15 me, myself and Bob

Not very entertaining... it was almost a defense of his actions rather than a true account of how it all came about and then how it ended.

Forgot two:

16. the chosen one by carol lynch williams

Just, wow! Incredible but horribly graphic for its intended audience. Still, I read it in one sitting which is unlike me. Couldn't put it down.

17. major pettigrew's last stand by helen simonson

Picked up on a lark as it was 25% off and I needed a book to kill some time while I waited for the kids to finish at skating. Very enjoyable - lovely descriptions of England and little bits of humour that caught me off-guard.

Sorry to hear you were ill & busy with Real Life, but glad to see you still got some reading done. :) I must pick up a copy of Major Pettigrew's Last Stand one day.
