I'm posting this to the American History and Military History groups, since they are the ones where I hang out and post.

In spite of having been a Florida resident for decades, today was the first time I ventured up to Jacksonville and visited the two Chamblin locations. Web site is...

http://chamblinbookmine.com/

I first went to Chamblin's Uptown on Laura Street. In the photo on the website it doesn't look that big, but it is. There is a small cafe on the first floor, with the rest devoted to books. The entire upper floor is all books. I seem to recall that they said they have 200,000 books on site and I believe them. It's very impressive. And fairly well organized too.

Next I went to the Roosevelt Boulevard location, what they call the Chamblin Bookmine. I was impressed with the Uptown store, but I was amazed by the Bookmine location. Supposedly it has one million books and again, I can believe it. The aisle for WWII history is the length of an aisle in a supermarket. The American history section is dozens of feet in length. It was a bit overwhelming to try to visit all my favorite bookstore subject locations.

So, if you happen to be planning a trip to the area, it's worthwhile to make a trip to Jacksonville and have a look. Just be sure to bring something in which to carry your selections, as my arms got tired after a while!
