So obviously in your spare time you enjoy reading, at least a little, or you wouldn't be here!
But what is your job/career?

I'm a poor example of what you are looking for. I am a retired translator/interpreter (French/English) and now that I am finally retired, I'm able to devote a lot of time to books and reading!! .... and loving it. It was worth the wait.
3BookaholicFromBirth
I'm not looking for anything in particular, just curious! I can't wait to be retired, have my kiddo all grown up, and be able to just read all day. Here's hoping the world hasn't gone bonkers and only e-books exist by then!
Btw, nice to meet you, GlendaHam! Enjoy your reading. :)

I retired last June after 31 years as a school psychologist in National City. So now I do pottery and craft classes, garden and read!

Nice to meet you, ronincats! I was thinking about getting into gardening. I was given a strawberry plant and it was thriving until I had to fly home and had nobody to water it so it died. I may pick your brain about gardening some time, if you'd be willing to share some tips for a newbie! :)

There are two of us on this account actively so I'll answer for us both:
James: computer programmer (LAMP, Drupal, etc.) and writer (Series Book Encyclopedia, biography of Edward Stratemeyer, and articles on books)
Kim: Ph.D. in English Literature, currently unemployed. Been trying to find work in the publicity/marketing/communication line or as editor, writer, or teacher. Publicity person for the San Diego Shakespeare Society (http://wwwsandiegoshakespearesociety.org).
Both of us run the steam train in Poway (where there will be cowboy shootouts on the 4th of July!). http://www.powaymidlandrr.org
Proud San Diegans for almost forever!

Keeline I did not know I had another society member in this group :)

Back to what I do: currently, I work the help desk support in the IT department of the company I work for. The company itself develops SharePoint solutions and hosting solutions for a wide variety of customers.
On the side, I enjoy photography and I hope to get more gigs. One aspect I really enjoy is photographing bands while they perform or practice. I also do a lot of art photography and get invited to do event photography.

Although I live in Michigan now, I lived in San Diego for 20 years and miss it so keep my eye on this group. I came to San Diego in 1986 when General Dynamics moved me there for a technical editor job. At that time GD was San Diego's largest employer. Before I moved to Michigan 20 years later, I was a technical editor at Bechtel, downtown San Diego. I'm still a technical editor.

I am only just now seeing this thread. I'm an unemployed technical writer. I haven't worked in 6+ months unfortunately. I've done mfg tech writing for so long that I now have a bit of a skills gap, which I'm trying to bridge.
My reading life has been on fire since my layoff, though. I've gotten more reading done this year than ever before. I even read 3 of the most-famous Russian classics in the Spring: Fathers and Sons, Crime and Punishment, and Anna Karenina. It's been quite a year of reading for me.
Currently I'm reading Drood by Dan Simmons. It's pretty good.

I'm a UCSD student who's old enough to be the mother of some of my classmates (funny, I don't feel that old). My other "job" is having a 6-year-old in a small public charter school that requires much parent volunteering (to say nothing of my detestable commute).
On a side note, I'm also a SDSS member, like bards and keeline. (The Tempest on September 6th at Upstart Crow, anyone?)
