Please keep checking this post for updated information. You can tell if it has been updated by the "edited" in the pink bar.

Saturday, August 6th & Sunday, August 7th.... approximately.

The ReadaThing Weekend starts at Noon, Saturday in New Zealand and lasts for 48 hours!! Which is 10 am on Saturday in Sydney, and 2 am in Paris, and 8 pm on Friday in NYC!! Oh, yes, 2pm Friday in Hawaii!!

It "ends" 48 hours later, but if you are in the middle of a good book, you don't have to stop. (yes, that's a joke)

Check the handy chart for a general idea of the times in your area.

The wiki page & sign up chart is here:
http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/ReadathonAugust2011

The Participation thread has a sign up for posting what book(s) you are planning on reading, too... if you have a specific book. In this way, you can find out if you are reading the same book(s) as someone else.... simultaneous reading? Also someone might see what you are reading & decide to read that, too!
http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/ReadathonAugust2011participation

While we would like to have each time slot filled, there is no limit for how many people can choose a time to read. And if you can't commit to a time, that's fine!! Just join in & read!! You can sign in here, if you want to, here: http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/ReadathonAugust2011#No_Timeline_Reade...

NEW!! Edit Here: There will be a Thread for checking in & discussing of books, etc. to be made later.

The Log Book: http://www.librarything.com/topic/121292

If you have questions or need help posting your chosen time, post in the thread (or PM someone) and most of us will be glad to help.

Did I forget anything?

(July 14th) Edited to add: Some LTers are also participating in "Do Nothing But Read" Day on August 6th. We have put a sign up box on the wiki page for this ReadaThing. We are not connected with that event except that some LTers are doing both. The sign up box is located here: http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/ReadathonAugust2011#Reading_Saturday_...

hats off - this may be the most organized ReadaThing yet!

Skittles, you are fantastic! Well done on all this organising, you have been doing an amazing job. As I said before, I'll see what gaps are left once other people have started filling in as I'm more flexible. Really looking forward to this!

Thanks to both of you!

BeeQuiet, you can take a place now & move to another spot later if you need to or want to. I chose a couple of spots that might work for my schedule, but I may have to move them as it gets closer to the weekend.

I also didn't want to limit the number of people reading at one time (not that I really could). So, if I have 25 people reading in one hour & one person reading in the next, that's ok. Some of those 25 will probably be reading for more than an hour anyway!!

I'll be spending Aug. 6 participating in Do Nothing But Read Day!

lilithcat, WOW!!

I didn't know about this, but its fantastic!!

(could you do both?)

Wow, synchronicity! How cool is that!

Thanks for posting the link lilithcat. I will participate in both. Now I just need to make sure not to make any plans for Aug. 6th.

Should we add a spot for those reading All Day Saturday??

jul 13, 2011, 4:25 pm

The last ReadaThing coincided with another DNBR day, so this will work well.

jul 13, 2011, 6:00 pm

wish i could participate in Do Nothing But Read Day this year, but it coincides with my 10 year high school reunion, which i am being dragged to against my will by my friend who has 5 children and sees it as a wonderful excuse to get out of the house. i would MUCH rather be reading.

but i'll sign up for a time slot sometime in the course of the weekend.

Blog post's up! Let me know if you add a "DNBR" column to the wiki and I'll add that to the blog, as well.

skittles,

You are the boss. If you want me to add a column somewhere, just tell me where :)

14skittles
jul 13, 2011, 7:15 pm

What? Who? ME?!!??! Boss?? EEK!!

If you would add a box below the No TimeLine Readers, titled "Reading Saturday for "Do Nothing But Read Day" " just above it.

Thanks!!

All signed up. I don't know what I'll be reading yet. I'll decide closer to the date.

Thanks, Skittles, for getting us all organized.
Thanks, AnnieMod, for keeping us all organized on the wiki page.

I've tentatively signed up for the Do Nothing But Read Day, hopefully nothing will come up for that weekend! Not quite sure what I'll be reading next, it will probably be Distinction: A Social Critique of the Judgement of Taste as it's a mammoth, very dense book meaning that I will probably still be working my way through it by then. This may change though, and I will probably add a fiction book as well so I can alternate.

Preparations are going well!

People are signing up for time slots & for unscheduled reading during the ReadaThing.

People are also signing in for the Do Nothing But Read Day on Saturday, August 6th.

A note: If there's a time you want to read, but there's already a name there, just add yourself to the time!! There's no limit to the number of people reading during one time slot!!

One week before the ReadaThing, I will start the thread where you can post what you will be reading, where you will be reading it, etc. It will also be the thread where you can post before/during/after you read! Let us know what you read & what you thought of it!! Many people have found more books to read because of the ReadaThing!!

Hi Readers,
I''m a newbie at this scheduled reading so I just signed up to read that weekend but not during a specific time. I just thought it would be fun to be reading that weekend knowing that others on LT were reading too.

added note:

Where can I see a listing of the books being read?

Thanks,

Hi there!
Always good to know I'm (sort of) in the company of another LTer for the big read!

22BeeQuiet
jul 20, 2011, 3:00 pm

Oh, and read the bottom paragraph of #18 by Skittles for the answer to your question. ;)

23JaneAustenNut
jul 20, 2011, 4:19 pm

Thanks, BeeQuiet; I just didn't read # 18 Skittles post well enough. Can't wait to get started. I'm reading Turn in the Road by Debbie Macomber.

24skittles
jul 20, 2011, 5:01 pm

Welcome, JaneAustenNut!

There will be a discussion/book post/check in/lots of info thread coming as BeeQuiet mentioned about my post #18, etc.

But if you want to announce your book(s) now, there is also a wiki page here:
http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/ReadathonAugust2011participation

Some people have posted their intentions there, too. Personally, I'm not sure what I'll be reading, but I'll post in all sorts of places by then.

And, if you want to specific a time that you want to read, but the wiki page is a little scary (even sometimes for me) then post it here & someone will be glad to add you to the timeline.... or the No Timeline Readers. I'm on both. Or PM me or one of the LTers who is helping with the wiki page. I can handle the timeline & non-timeline sections.

25skittles
jul 20, 2011, 7:58 pm

Remember that more than one person can sign up to read during any time slot! If someone is already reading when it is most convenient for you to read, then put your name in, too!

Just make sure there is a comma between the names!

I'm wondering what time slot will have the most names & how many LTers will be simultaneously reading!!

26skittles
jul 25, 2011, 9:16 pm

FYI: There WILL BE glitches on the wiki sign up page.

If something happens, don't worry... ALL OF US have made wiki page mistakes (and I mean all of us!! There's a reason I don't do fancy stuff on it.. .but I'm learning)

If you see something "funny", PM me (skittles) or AnnieMod or anyone you want to help fix it. The sooner we know, the sooner we can fix it... or post in this thread... and someone will work on the wonky-wiki.

If your name disappears from where you put it, add it again, or let us know by PM & we will make sure it is replaced. If you 'fix it' please let me know what happened by PM on my profile. It is better we know that things happen, even if it was in error!!

- - - - - - -

and the sign ups are going WONDERFULLY!!

It looks as if we will be having a good crowd for this weekend-long ReadaThing & DNBRD!!

The thread for posting plans & books & reviews & other actual ReadaThing event stuff will be posted later this week!!

I am officially excited. Thanks again for all your hard work on it. :D

I'm in! I'm going to start at Saturday 10:00am local Bulgarian time (8:00am GTM) and keep going for as long as I can since I'm also participating in the DNBRD.

I don't really get this Readathon, but it sounds like a good idea (anything that provides an excuse to read for an excessive amount of time seems like a good idea really).

I think I already know what I will be reading.

29AnnieMod
jul 26, 2011, 4:09 pm

Yey - another Bulgarian :) (waving from halfway across the world)

>I don't really get this Readathon

Just finding excuses to read and talk about reading :)

I am planning to do this Read-a-thon and the Do Nothing But Read Day as well. I will attempt to read the entire weekend except for the 'must get some sleep' breaks.
(I am really sorry but the wiki thingy is over my computer head)
The books that I am planning (at this time) to read that weekend are:
The Fountain Overflows by Rebecca West
Cousin Rosamund by Rebecca West
Where the Apple Ripens by Jessie Kesson
The Ballad and the Source by Rosamond Lehmann
Liana by Martha Gellhorn
They are all Virago Press books as we will be in our
ALL VIRAGO/ALL AUGUST challenge over on our little Virago site.
Good reads all,
belva

#30: rainpebble, you are signed up for the "no timeline" or anytime read for ReadaThing, so you are good to go.

The wiki page for books is here: http://www.librarything.com/wiki/index.php/ReadathonAugust2011participation

and I'll clean up the book links there.

Thanks!!

@#31:
Thank you so much skittles. The wiki stuff I just find so confusing. Old dogs/new tricks sort of thing going on there I guess. I appreciate your going to all that time and effort.

**again, if you need help signing up or have questions, feel free to post here or PM me or any of the others who are helping out!! (if they seem as if they know what they are doing, they are usually helping out!)
