Here's an interesting obituary about Amy Peberdy who just passed away at the age of 100. Her husband was Philip Storer Peberdy with whom she spent the 1940s exploring British Guiana. That area formed the basis for Arthur Conan Doyle's Lost World. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/8828100/Amy-Peberdy.html

Lots of old explorers in the news today. When it rains it pours. French explorer Michel Peissel, the man who loved Tibet, has also passed away.

And here's a review of Alexander Maitland's biography of the explorer Wilfred Thesiger, called of course Wilfred Thesiger: The Life of the Great Explorer. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203476804576612900362157440.html?m...

Cool, I didn't know there was a new Thesiger bio out. I loved his Arabian Sands and The Marsh Arabs
