I'm trying to find a good series I read some time ago, with a lesbian lead investigator or detective. I can't remember many details, so I thought I'd just toss out the question and see what you all come up with. It would be great to have the characters name as well as book title, maybe a little something about the story. (And all due respect, but I'm not talking about Rita Mae Brown's cat detective.)

I'm sure it's not what you're looking for, but a couple of the Harry Bosch novels my Michael Connelly (The Closers) feature Kizmin Rider, who is a lesbian, although she isn't the lead.

Could be Val McDermid's Lindsay Gordon series?
From Amazon:
"Lindsay Gordon, Scottish journalist and amateur sleuth, was the first creation of international bestseller Val McDermid. Report for Murder introduced the United Kingdom’s first lesbian detective, and the series has been perennially popular ever since. Lindsay is tenacious to the point of stubbornness, intrepid to the point of stupidity, and loyal to the point of laying her life on the line. With the support of friends, family, and lovers, she takes on the world with wit and brio, unraveling criminal conspiracies and unmasking murderers. She’s feisty, feminist, and funny."

This is great! I'll check out all of them, and if I can't find the one I was looking for, at least I'll have some good reads! Thank you.

You might also try the Lauren Laurano series by Sandra Scoppettone: five books, I think, beginning with Everything You Have Is Mine. Laurano is a lesbian PI who lives in Greenwich Village, New York City, with her lover Kip, a psychotherapist . . . nifty characters, you-are-there local color, and good writing.

There are dozens of them (or at least there used to be back in the nineties)- see: http://www.librarything.com/tag/detective,+lesbian
The Emma Victor series by Mary Wings (titles all start "She came ...") are among the classics of the genre. Apart from those mentioned above, Barbara Wilson and Sandra Scoppettone are other names to look out for.

Norway's Anne Holt's Hanne Wilhelmsen series, which begins with Blind Goddess, currently being reprinted. The most recent title is 1222 and is also an homage to Agatha Christie.

I know it's been a while since anyone posted here but the Micky Knight series by J. M. Redmann could be the one.
