Let us know what and/or where you plan on reading!!
(there will be a LOG BOOK thread for posting during the read!)

Possible information to provide:
Are you planning on reading specific books? genres? collections? or other categories of books?
Why will you be reading that book instead of another book?
Will you be reading a book you've been putting off?
Will you be rereading an old favorite book?
How did you find out about your book or what made you choose to read it?

Where you will be reading?
(Interpret this question broadly. We would like to get more information about RaT readers, so any information about Northern/Southern Hemisphere, Country/State/Province, Time Zone, etc. will help us have a better picture of how/if this RaT is distributed around the world.)
What season is it where you will be reading? and/or what is the weather likely to be like?

Will you be reading by yourself or will there be others around?
What are your plans/goals for the ReadaThing Week?

I'll be trying to reduce my TBR books, specifically those I've had for more than a year (my criteria for my Books Off My Book Shelves (BOMBS) challenge). There are over 300 books on that list, so I have plenty to choose from! :my TBR collection

I'm in the Northern Hemisphere, specifically in Minnesota (CDT).
Most summers I would be reading outside or on my front porch. Unfortunately, this summer has been VERY hot (current temp 95°F with high humidity), so I may be trapped inside in my one air conditioned room.
I will mostly be reading alone, though occasionally my cat tries to "help" by sitting in front of my books :)

I've got two Early Reviewer books I want to get to, and will probably also work on whatever else I've got going.

I'm going to be reading things that fit into my 12 in 12 category challenge. The "shortlist" is here, and my category challenge thread is here. I'm also trying to read at least 100 books this year, and I'm currently 17 books off schedule, so I'm hoping to get back on track by taking a week and focusing on books.

I'm in Indiana (EDT). It's summer here, we're in the middle of a really serious drought (I keep expecting to see tumbleweeds in the backyard), and it's hot. Therefore, I'll do most of my reading in my house.

I don't have any particular plans for what I'll read - whatever is appealing to me when the time comes. Though I'm _trying_ to read books I've had hanging around a while, rather than new books or library books - mostly, so that I can decide if I then want to get rid of them. Wall space is so limited...

I'm in Northern California, SF Bay Area, which is _not_ participating in the US heat wave. Average highs in the 60s for the past month (of course, lows are only in the low 50s), though we've had a couple hot days in the 80s. Literally a couple, so I'm not counting on that. I'll be reading indoors; if the weather's nice, I'll have the sliding glass door open for air. My cats may come and snuggle with me, or sit across the room and stare.

Don't know what I'll be eating, either - while cookies or brownies would be nice, I'm trying to keep my weight down. Probably celery and cauliflower for crunch, maybe some of my own tomatoes (if they've decided to become ripe by then).

Hmmm. I've just realized that for the first three or four days, I'll be visiting my sister. She's in Reno, and they _are_ participating in the heat wave. So - yeah, indoors and with _her_ cats watching me. I will have time to read, she's a reader too. In fact, I think I'll try to hook her into the RaT (she is on LT, but not very active).

There's some of my "alternative Alice" stuff I haven't actually read yet. I will probably use the occasion to make some progress there.

I'm in Holland and this summer is being dismal. Incessant rain, and temperatures have only rarely hit 20 C (68 F, according to my conversion thingy) so far. Today's high: 16 C (61 F)....

So, I'll probably be reading indoors too - or maybe on my balcony which is somewhat shaded from the rain.

Whatever catches my eye... and I suspect I will be joining the people reading indoors - it is too hot to read outdoors. Although the way my life goes, I might end up traveling that week in which case you never know.

I'll be reading TBRs. I'm starting Charlotte Gray next week and may be finishing it up about the time the challenge starts. Next is Sweeping Up Glass by Carolyn Wall. I received this as a SantaThing gift last year and still haven't read it...it looks really good and I'm sorry I've put it off this long!

I'll be reading on the commuter rail (in Massachusetts). Nothing in my TBR pile is too exciting right now, so maybe I'll make this my excuse to get something new.

I have book reviews scheduled all the way through October. I will definitely be working on that list as well as a couple I need to read for school. After all I assigned them to my students to read this summer. Between my physical books and my ebooks,I will add in other books as I go along to spice it up a little, and work on the TBR list.

Since I live in Sarasota, Florida (EST) and we have been getting a lot of rain I may have to do some of my reading in the house. If there is no rain and a nice breeze I have a yard swing, or the option of a covered porch with a fan.

I will probably be reading by myself. I’ve scheduled a specific time for me to definitely read. However, I won’t limit myself to just that time period. I will be slipping it in as I can due to babysitting my grandkids. During those hours I plan on reading to them off and on.

I had originally planned on setting up times to read but a recent change in my babysitting schedule made me realize I will need to read when I can, such as nap times, or after they have gone home. Either way I will enjoy it.

Should be fun :)

I'll be reading for my ABC Challenge and I've just started to buy more books, because I'm staying in England for ten days and so I've got a perfect opportunity to buy English books.
I'll start reading on my way back (Manchster-Zürich).

During the ReadaThing week I'll be reading at home (Zürich-Switzerland).

I really don't have any specific books in mind, I'll just read. My genre usually is mystery or urban fantasy or historical esp military but I will read just about anything so anything is fair game. It could be new or previously read. It simply will be what the mood is. That being said, I am a speed reader so it will be more than a couple. I usually average about a book to two books a day if they are't extremely large or very boring.

I'm in South Central PA. Since it is summer it will be when the mood strikes for me. I usually read before bed or if it is a horrible hot humid day, I'll simply rest and do some reading.

I honestly don't have any goals. I have passed it on to my library and they are putting it up on their website so you might get a few more wandering in to read also from the area.

#17 Plan to try and finish The brothers of Gwynedd by Edith Pargeter. I have read the first 2 novels, Sunrise in the west and The dragon at noonday but need to read the final two, The hounds of sunset and Afterglow and nightfall.

As for place: it's over 100 degrees so sitting outside is out. Will stay inside where it's air conditioned.

jul 19, 2012, 9:44 pm

I will be reading as I lie in bed next to my 3yr old - who only likes to nap when Mommy is lying down with him. My only relieable time to read during the day. In Indiana (and indoors, obviously). I will be reading Bloom by Kellie Hampton.

19staffordcastle
jul 20, 2012, 12:29 am

I will probably be reading mainly at lunchtime at work, which gives me a reliable 45 minutes every day; in the evenings I will most likely be parked in front of the television set, watching the Olympics. It's the only time I'm ever a sports fan.

As to what, I really don't know yet - perhaps I'll finish The Russells, which I borrowed from my sister ages ago.

Jjmcgaffey, your Bay Area temps sound like paradise!

I will be reading in Virginia, where we are having the same awful heat wave so I'll likely be reading indoors in my little book nook under the AC vent! On Friday it'll just be me and the cats, one or more of whom I'm sure will be a book blocker just like LucindaLibri's cat :-) The rest of the weekend hubby will be home and will do some reading with me.

I have an ER book, plus a stack of other ARCs that I'll be working my way through accompanied by a glass of iced coffee. Can't wait!

21lottpoet
jul 20, 2012, 11:25 am

I just signed up for time slots mostly Thursday-Sunday. I will be reading as much as I can outside of those times, but once the Olympics starts, it'll probably just be during my work commute.

I'm not sure what I'll be reading. I'm currently in the middle of eight books, so I'll probably be trying to finish off those rather than starting something new. I'm most excited about Gardens in the Dunes by Leslie Marmon Silko and The Year the Music Changed by Diane Thomas. Gardens in the Dunes, I'm about 100 pages in and have been dying to get back to it. The Year the Music Changed, I've barely begun, but it reads very quickly so I have hopes for finishing it off during ReadaThing.

I'm in the Twin Cities, MN; Central Time Zone. It is an extremely hot, humid summer. I'll definitely be reading inside with the fans or possibly someplace air conditioned like the Art Institute down the street or the Library.

Like jjmcgaffey, I will be enjoying the North Bay weather, hopefully not getting too hot. This event falls just before I go back to work so the timing could not be more perfect. I have the next in the Dr. Siri Paboun series by Collin Cotterill, The Merry Misogynist and the Matthew Shardlake series by C.J. Sansom, Sovereign. If I can avoid the Olympics on TV (highly likely) I may be able to read one more.

I had a lot of trouble signing up for this & am still not sure it took me (tear tracks silently down cheek)...thank god I opted for the minimally-compulsive "No Timeline"
group. I'll be reading two books I've skimmed previously: "The Scalpel and the Silver
Bear: The First Navajo Woman Surgeon Combines Western Medicine and Traditional Healing" (Alvord & Van Pelt), and "New Mexico Colcha Club: Spanish Colonial Embroidery and the Women Who Saved It" (Benson). They're both good nonfiction
reads.

jul 22, 2012, 6:49 am

I also am signed up for no timeline but it will definitely be Saturday and Sunday (UK time).
I am a mood reader so not sure what I will read yet - I would have said Casket of Souls (a birthday present) but as I am going to the theatre on Sunday I don't think I'll have enough time to give it the attention it deserves. Probably saving Casket for my week off work in August.
In the mood for short books rather than tomes at moment so it might well be a crime/thriller book.

Although the sun has finally made an appearance in South Wales I don't really like reading outdoors so I suspect it will be my usual reading place - propped up in bed with cat keeping my knees warm.

27clif_hiker
jul 22, 2012, 9:47 am

I'm treating the week as a read-a-thon and plan to try to read for at least 10 hours/day (70 hours total).

This will give me the opportunity to read the following (which have been on my list forever, but need a serious commitment)

Judas Unchained Peter Hamilton
A Clash of Kings & A Storm of Swords George R.R. Martin
Revelation Space & Chasm City Alistair Reynolds
The Landmark Herodotus
The Year's Best Science Fiction: Twenty-Eighth Annual Collection

and then we will see ...

jul 23, 2012, 6:29 am

I will continue reading:
Au bord de l'eau by Shi Nai'an (in English known as Outlaws of the Marsh
Over-Ysselsche sangen en dichten, poems by the 17th century Dutch poet Jacob Revius
Eerst de waarheid, dan de vrede by Enny de Bruijn, a biography of Revius.

I expect to start reading
Dangerous Knowledge by Robert Irwin
Kijken naar jou uit duizend ogen, a collection of translations of Ancient Greek and Latin love poems
Ulixes, a new Dutch translation of Ulysses.

I managed to sign up for the No timeline group. I will be reading at home, hopefully in the garden in my deckchair.
I live in Holland, in the province Limburg, the Town I live in is called Roermond. I work at a school for students between 12 and 19. And I have a 7 week summerbreak. My husband and I decided to stay at home and not go to France as we are used to. We had a paintingjob done to our house (lots of wood and a husband who is not a 'do-it-your-self' kind of guy). So al our money has gone into paint and that kind of stuff.
But summer seems to be here, so a lot of reading will be done in the garden.
I have made a 'Soon To Be Read Pile' and I will be choosing from that pile.

Great to see so many different reading places and books. I still don't know if I will be around this week. If I do have time to read and I am home I will be reading either at work, my bedroom, living room and possibly outside depending on the weather.

I am currently reading:

Fifty Shades of Grey by E. L. James
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling

If I finish any of these I don't know what I will be picking up. I have been reading the HP book since September. I just haven't had the time to read it and since it is a re-read I am not rushing through it. The other ones are books I just started or started a few weeks ago. I have had some ER books to get through and I fnally finished them so I am taking this time to read these books. Trying to make a dent in my TBR mountains!

Hoping to be able to participate.

I've signed up for the No Timeline as well, though I am sure I can fit in the timeline, but work and business may affect that. I'm planning to read

The Prince of Tides
State of Fear
Cosa Nostra: A History of the Sicilian Mafia
The Chalice and the Blade
The Isle of Devils Holy War

32LMHTWB
jul 25, 2012, 3:24 pm

I'll be reading:
A Comedy of Terrors to review for an author
Inukshuk which is an ER book
South of Centre to do a review and interview
Stable Cat because I'm addicted to pithy cat mysteries

After that, I have another ER, some serious fiction, and, yes, more cat mysteries.

Since I'm signed up for the midnight EST/9pm PST slots, I'll be reading in bed, with cats.

I'm in Boston (Northern hemisphere, EST, signed up for No Timeline) where it's been really hot this summer. So my reading will be inside, either while I'm curled up in bed or riding the exercise bike. I'll plan to work on Look Me in the Eye, and The Greatest Minor League (an ER book), The Omnivore's Dilemma and Three Men in a Boat, though since we're going to the library this weekend I could easily be derailed by something else!

(Edited since I finished Ruth Reichl's Tender at the Bone last night and started reading two more books.)

jul 25, 2012, 7:35 pm

Although I have family coming over for the weekend and a massive BBQ right in the middle, I'll still find time to read.

I will be fininshing "The Night Monster" by James Swain, finishing "Deadline" by Mira Grant, finishing "Lisey's Story" by Stephen King, finishing "Blaze" by Stephen King and starting "Queen of the Night" by J.A. Jance. The first four books are more than 50% read but I need the time to finish! I've been putting off Blaze and Lisey's Story for others and I just want to finally finish them! :) Night Monster and Queen of the Night are part of my adult summer reading program through my local library. When I finish books on the list and write a review I get another chance to win a bag of books (more to add to the TBR collection). :)

I am in Central NJ (ET); it is SUMMER and has been super hot, upper 90s on most days! I may spend some mornings outside in the shade before it gets above 80 and then the rest of the time inside. If my kids want to be outside, then I'll be by the pool where the dogs, kids and noise will be distracting but I'll still be able to read!

My ultimate goal is to have all 5 of these books done during the RaT week! I have a vacation coming up and I want to have 2 fresh unopened books to read during my vacation!

Good luck everyone!

I'm reading just 4 books now, and am hoping to finish all of them.

Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness (Just went to a reading/signing of hers last night!)
A Fatal Grace by Louise Penny
Big Cherry Holler by Adriana Trigiani
The Roald Dahl Omnibus by Roald Dahl ( this is a BIG book, so if I can get another couple hundred pages read I'll be happy)

After that, my stack of TBR Soon books is quite large, plus I've got a few library ones in there too. I'll just see what sounds interesting! And of course, I'll be watching as much Olympics stuff as I can. Much like staffordcastle in msg 19, this is the only time I'm really a sports fan.

I live just outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Central time zone) and since I'm also very much a part of this grossly humid heat wave I will most certainly be reading in my centrally air-conditioned house! If it cools and de-humids a little bit I'll be reading on my back patio, but that's looking unlikely.

This Friday during the day and Monday morning are my official times, but I'll be reading outside of that time, hopefully for at least 2 hours a day. Looking forward to tomorrow!

I'm hoping to read more than one book. I've just been fortunate enough to receive three books to review through the giveaway, and I would hate to be disrespectful to the authors by making them wait, so they are in my top four, but then I'm also about to finish rereading "Sense and Sensibility" and need to reread "Pride and Prejudice." I'm participating in a yarn swap through ravelry.com, which is kind of like a penpal relationship on steroids, and I'd like to refresh my memory of Elizabeth Bennett's particulars as originally written so that I can best surprise and please my penpal. Jane Austen has been a favorite since high school. I love her kind but honest wit and keen observations about society and our strange adaptations to the roles within which we find ourselves.

I will be reading in DownEast Maine, where we are enjoying a Summer which is mildly warmer than usual, and much drier. Aside from the tourists, it's peaceful, with mountains and ocean meeting up here in one of the last frontiers of the Eastern United States.

I hope to read by myself. I like to ignore the world around me when I read, yet I always feel rather rude if I do this in the presence of others. We'll see how this works out, won't we? I'd like to read at least an hour a day. It's easy to read far more than that, but I'm thinking that since we're getting a new puppy tomorrow, my reading time may be seriously limited!

I'm in Alabama, where it is too hot to be outside. I usually walk in the morning, but the heat nearly knocked me over when I went out, so I'll exercise inside or maybe just read instead. I have a stack of library books to finish. I'm reading Maphead by Ken Jennings and a dog mystery Till Death Do Us Bark by Judi McCoy. When I finish these I might get back to My Life by Bill Clinton, which I've been working on since last August. I can only read it a little at a time, but it is good, just causes me to think too hard.

I will be reading Death Comes to Pemberly, mostly in the evenings, in my apartment in Orlando, Florida (Eastern Daylight Saving Time). My husband will be there with me most evenings, but he's a TV watcher, not a reader. I will most likely be in the spare bedroom/home office, where the light is best for nighttime reading, with the door closed to muffle the TV noise.

I chose this book for the read-a-thon because I checked it out of the library a couple of weeks ago but stalled out before the end of the first chapter, which is basically a summary of Pride and Prejudice. This read-a-thon is just the push I need to keep going and finish the book. I am a fan of both Jane Austin and P. D. James and in spite of the boring beginning I'm hoping for better things ahead.

It is hot, humid summer here with afternoon thunderstorms almost every day and sticky, humid nights. But the payoff is rich, lush greenness and beautiful, constantly changing cloud formations.

I'm on a mini 'staycation' from work today through Monday and my goal is to read a book a day. I'm not a very quick reader so this could be a tad ambitious if I want to do anything else but read...though, that doesn't sound so bad. :) Today I will finish up 'A Glass of Blessings' by Barbara Pym. I've just started re-reading her works which I adored when i first read them about 20 years ago. I'll then be starting 'The Jewish Gospels' by Daniel Boyarin. My favorite places to read are in the oversized chair in the den, sprawled out on my bed, or if the heat isn't too bad out on my lounge chair on the backyard patio. Of course, all the indoor spots mean having cats cuddling up sleeping while I'm reading. That may be the best part of all.

I've been trying to get through the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin, so I'll be reading A Storm of Swords! I'm in the US, in New England, so it's summer but it's not too hot. and two new spy/terrorist type books I've forgotten the name of
plus my laptop with the Kindle app :D

Where am I reading:
Northern Hemisphere, West Coast, at the beach :-)

I've spent most of my reading time in the family room overlooking the water, listening to the sounds of my extended family and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.

I'm going to do quick re-reads of Jane Eyre & Wuthering Heights before joining the 1001 Books August Group Read of Agnes Grey. It's been so long since I read them, I'd like to refresh my memory so I can better compare the styles of the sisters.

Both books are in the public domain & I will read them on my Kindle, curled up in a chair with Rufus the kitten.
