Are these books well written? Or just something very light w/o much character development, etc.? A friend has offered me her collection of this series, but after checking some reviews out, I'm not sure it's "heavy" enough. Has anyone else liked her books?

If you're looking for something "heavy" or deep, you won't find it in the Aunt Dimity books. They are light and amusing. I really liked the first two, didn't enjoy the next three at all, tried a couple more, but couldn't finish them. Not only is there a lack of character development, but it seems like Lori, the main character in most of the books, actually regresses. Some people must enjoy the whole series, but after the first two I just found them too repetitive, and Lori irritated me.

The books are a light read. I enjoy hearing about the twins. Lori always seems to be in a jam. The first few books were good & they showed how they got from the USA to UK. If you are looking for chracter gowth this won't be it.

SylviaC-

I perservered (not exactly sure why) and found that Lori got less irritating later on. I find that for the later books, I am content to let Aunt Dimity do the chastizing, rather than feeling a need to slap her myself. And I am really not a slapping kind of person... Haven't read the last two yet, though although from what I've read they continue at the same level as those after Aunt Dimity Slays the Dragon.

I agree with everythng that's been said. Nonetheless, I read them - I like hearing about some of the characters, I think that is the main reason I read cozies. It may not be heavy enough for you at all, but even if you like cozies, I'd be inclined to skip say, books 3-14. Also, there is a bit of paranormal in them, if that's a turn off, definitely have your friend find another recipient.

MDGentleReader:
Maybe I should go to the end of the series, and start reading backwards. I liked the first two so much that I was really disappointed about the way things were going.
