The Cat Who...

After visiting this link suggested by nicolettablu, I found a ton of new authors to add to my wish list.
One of them was Lilian Jackson Braun and as soon as I got my hands on The Cat Who Could Read Backwards, the first one in the series, I had to try it out.
I had so much fun reading about Koko, I felt like the author really did know how to portray cats' reactions.
Now I'm in trouble as the series is already 28 books long! :os

Yeah, yeah... as soon as you got your hands on MY book!! ;o)
I'm really curious now to read it...
As for the rest of the series, are all the 28 books good?? Who has read them?

I've read them all. They're excellent. I like the middle ones best--after Quill is rich, but before the last 4 or 5 maybe. I've heard rumors they're being ghost written now, and maybe that's why the later ones aren't as appealing.

I love the characters. I always think it wouldn't matter if anything happened or not--its just fun following Quill around.

No. The series starts out well, but over the last few years has, in my view, deteriorated badly.

I find that's the problem with long series, after a while it just gets tiresome. At least we'll have a couple of good ones before it starts deteriorating! :o)
And it is indeed fun following Quill and Koko, I've read that in the second book we're going to meet another feline. Yay!

I haven't read them all, and, the ones I have read, not in order, either. I've found them enjoyable. And, they always make me hungry. A few years back there was a Cat Who Cookbook. At the time I was too broke to get one. Wish I had a copy now! Even the things Quill fixes up for the cats can get your mouth watering sometimes.

I own a large portion of these books. I have only had a chance to read the first 4 books. The first 4 books that I have read I have really enjoyed. I read about 1 book from the series a year. I have so many other series that I am currently in the middle of reading, just like this series. So I read one from each series at a time and move on to the next series.

I truly enjoy these books so far, and am looking forward to continuing to read more.

As long as you do not read them in a row, they are actually readable (with the latest ones being the worse ones indeed). If you start going through the series in a row, there is a chance that you will get bored pretty fast though

I've been reading these books for 20 years - the first I read were on a beach vacation with my then boyfriend, who has now been my husband for 20 years this month! I am an avid mystery reader and especially love cozies.

I really enjoyed the first books of this series and thought they were very good up until about the 16th or so - The Cat Who Came to Breakfast was about the last one that I enjoyed. I so looked forward to the new book which came out annually.

The Cat Who Blew the Whistle started the downhill spiral, and by the time The Cat Who Saw Stars was published, there wasn't much in the way of mystery at all - just Qwilleran, Koko and Yum Yum in their daily life. The last books were almost painful to read for me, after enjoying the first so much.

I would definitely recommend the first 16 or so books - but you can skip the last books, unless at that point you feel heavily invested, as I did.

I really love this series although the last ones weren't as great but still enjoyable.

I have read them all in order and I like all of them with the excpeption of the Cat who saw stars which wasn't much of a mystery. I would definitely recommend this series and can't wait to find out if there will be more.

I bought about 20 of them once when they were on special and sat down and read them straight away.

They are fun but I did wonder about Koko and Yumyum's diet. He seemed to feed them on such totally unsuitable food. But I guess that fictional cats can eat anything and thrive.

I must say that my boy kitten is trying to emulate them and has already had an untrasound to see what is inside him and at the moment both my cats would like to eat coffee grounds; my potplants are a distant memory ... *sigh*
