Club Read Texans Unite!

Quite a few of us in Club Read are Texans and in another thread we had been discussing a potential meetup in Austin. If you are Texan, please let yourself be known so we can try and organize something.

...let's just not talk about seceding, okay? :-)

I live in Rowlett, which is an eastern suburb of Dallas. I was born in Dallas and went to high school (Bryan Adams) and college there (B.A.: SMU, M.S.: UT Dallas). I'm retired and very flexible as to the time and place for a meet-up except for June when I'll be on vacation in Britain.

Thanks for setting the thread up. Let's find out who is interested and then try to figure out a date. I'm in Houston and can make Austin fairly easily...except that it also has to work for my family. Before March 29 is tough, after that is kind of unknown.

I'm not a Texan but I travel to Houston several times a year since my daughter, son-in-law and grandchild live there. Since I have a sister in Austin, depending on when this takes place, I may be able to pop in.

Unless I finally get a job and that job takes me out of Texas, I'm available at any time. But I highly suggest avoiding SXSW week(s) (March 8-17) and ACL Fest weekend(s) (Oct 3-6, 11-13). I forgot that ACL is doing two weekends for the first time.

Is there a particular quarter of the year that we'd like to meet in? Perhaps first quarter is too early notice.

I was thinking Q2 (April-to-June).

I travel a bit for work, but as of now, I don't have any major trips in the second quarter.

I live in San Antonio and would love to join a Club Read Texan event soon. We Texans must stick together. LOL!!!

I'm not in this group but I live right outside of Houston. I can make an Austin meet. Fairly flexible on the dates.

Now that it seems we have our participating members established, should we start throwing out dates and ideas as to what to do? I feel like May would be a nice month.

I keep telling myself to look up stuff in Austin to help set promising dates...but haven't done that yet. Apologies. June/July is in my head for selfish scheduling reasons.

June/July sounds good to me but I loved Katie's idea over on a 75 thread about going to Fredericksburg and hitting the wine tours. Of course we were talking more about wine than books. :)

Bumping the thread up again. ACL Fest weekends are Oct 3-6 and 11-13. Who would like to meet up in Austin the following weekend on Oct 19th?

I can possibly make it that date, but both my wife and son have birthdays that week, so celebrations yet to be scheduled could interfere.
