Just thought I'd mention that this is out now. Yes, I'm plugging my own translation. But it's a very good book. A literary novel but with a significant plot. A novel about Kiev, about the Ukraine's capitalist transformation, about trust and friendship. There's a lot packed into a pretty small book, but Nikitin pulls it off. Available in the UK now, and available in the US in early May.

Hi Anisoara,
I looked for this book (the title is Istemi, right?) but couldn't find any details about it or about the author.

Yeah you say "it" but you have no info here on what "it" is, aside of your having translated it...

It won't be available in the US until early May, but here's the UK Amazon link with the blurb info:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Istemi-Alexey-Nikitin/dp/0720614643/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&a...

Ignore the 'Click to look inside' as it takes you to the original Russian, which is not what's inside *this* book.

And here's the publisher's page:

Alexei Nikitin was nominated for the Russian NatsBest (National Bestseller) prize - in 2011, I think.

It sounds interesting - I'll keep an eye out for it, Paul

Thanks for that, Paul.

Also, I probably should have mentioned that it's literary but with more plot than your average lit read.

Oh gosh... yes, the book is called Istemi.

Hi Anne-Marie, Are there any more Alexey Nikitin translations on the way? Istemi was one of my favourite reads of last year.

Hi Paul

I'm really glad you enjoyed Istemi so much. It's very good, isn't it?

Alexey Nikitin has another book out, Mahjong, published in Russian in 2012, I think, but it's not been translated into English and, to my knowledge, no one has acquired English language rights yet. If I hear anything I'll let you know.
