It was getting slow to load...

This is Shoney:

And JK:

Another view of JK:

And the dastardly handsome Hutch:

He's FIV-positive, so extremely difficult to adopt out. :(

Edit on 12/21/14:

Sorry, had to delete...photos messed up again.

FYI:

Shoney and Hutch RIP.

JK is happy in a fur-ever home.

I think that 'JK' is cool. Err. showing my age there :-)

Why should a FIV cat be difficult to place? Say for a single Cat household?

3anna_in_pdx
jul 30, 2013, 10:52 am

Our humane society has so many older animals and animals that are FIV positive or have feline diabetes or some other health problem. They are very difficult to adopt.

We are also having a real kitten boom. Last time I went there there were several different litters, many of which were marked "abandoned" which really gets me every time.

Has anyone heard from Seanie? I am glad to see fuzzi posting.

JK looks like a camera hog. :)
Hutch reminds me of my Alex. All spit and vinegar, but a cuddle bunny all the same...

Sad news: our sweet Po-Purry was returned to us, sick. The vet was unable to save her.

RIP, sweet Po-Purry

What does that say about the person who adopted her, yet returned her when she got sick? :(

I'm here anna_in_pdx - have been absent from LT for a while, life really got in my way! & You wouldn't believe how much paperwork is needed to become an official Shelter! I've been drowning in official docs for the last month or so *sigh*

Wow you have actually started a shelter yourself! Well that is a very good reason, maybe the best reason, to be absent from the "cats, books, life is good" group! Welcome back, I am looking forward to new glamour shots of your shelter cats as well as your lovely pets Taji and Tilly.

Oh I haven't started a shelter myself, its that our local council have decided to reclassify The Cat Corner - we were an incorporated rescue group with a shopfront running on a domestic animal business permit. Its gonna be really good for us (& the cats of course) long term, but short term is a lot of work to get us into compliance with the code of practice for shelters & pounds...

Dear Seanie, I visited your opening. WHY would they reclassify your organization?
Is it local politics? Are there any local councilors who are 'animal lovers'?

Definitely Aww!

Here are a couple of recent pics of cats @ TCC :)

Meet the lovely Fireworks, she is the biggest cat we have atm, I'm taking my scales in next time to weigh her coz she's big even for a boy, let alone a lady :) She was surenderred because she was apparently getting aggressive to her owners, she has had a few territorial moments in her enclosure with us, but no real aggression, just general tortitude & a bit of shock at being in a cage I think:

This is Jake, who is currently at our Adoption Centre in a Pet Barn store where I'm sure he'll be winning hearts & will soon find his purrfect human slaves:

This is Nancy, who I may have posted pics of before, she's bunking with her mum Nicola & they were feral & are still timid, but Nancy is leaning into pats now, headbutting hands & purring, tho she still flinches a bit if you don't approach carefully:

& This is MummaCat, who was adopted out from TCC before I get involved, but her owner died recently :( so MummaCat has come back to us to find her new human slaves. Contrary to her somewhat fierce appearance, she's a lovely lady with a very impressive coat:

I finally got around to doing a new photoshoot @ TCC yesterday, not the most successful day as far as great photos, but I have a few new pics to share :)

This is 'Solomon' - he's nearly 5 years old & was surrendered a couple of days ago because the family are having a baby, even tho the cat gets along well with their other children *sigh*... His name was actually Salami (what the? I understand letting the kids name the cat, but 'Salami'??? lol) which we decided to change to Solomon... He's not only a stunning cat to look at, but is super friendly & affectionate - & has already found himself a new home which he will go to next week :)

This is Porscher, a very pretty, sweet affectionate lady who will find a home very quickly I'm sure

This is Layla, she's bunking with Porsher at the moment, she has a couple of minor skin issues (you can see the acne on her chin in the head shot pic) & needs to gain some weight, but she's super friendly so shouldn't have much trouble finding her home once she's ready. I couldn't get a full shot of her body except through the cage bars in her enclosure coz she just kept trying to smooch the camera in the photos cage, lol :)

This is Smudge. Smudge is a bit shy & unsure of humans, so it was hard to get a decent photo of her. She didnt like the cage I'd set up with curtains for photos at all, so best I could get was through the cage bars in her enclosure

This is Harold. Harold has only been with us a week or so & we haven't had him de-sexed yet, & his hormones seem to confuse him, he rolls around in his bed & begs for attention & purrs up a storm when being patted, but when I tried to pick him up to put him in the photos cage, he decided that my hand was for eating! He wasn't being aggressive at all, but it still hurt!

This is Bo (grey & white) & Buttercup (ginger). Buttercup actually went to a home not long ago, but he pined the whole time he was there & the lady who adopted him felt she hadn't done the right thing by him, so she brought him back & he was instantly happier once he saw Bo again! We knew they were friends, but didnt realise just how bonded they actually are - so these 2 are now a pair to only be adopted together...

& Last but not least, this is the magnificent Cloud :) He's around 2 years old & is just sooo lovely! He's happy to be carried around (tho at nearly 6kg's we're not so happy to carry him around, lol) & seems to be a real sweet gentle giant :)

I think they said her coloring is called a "dilute tortoiseshell". I'd have kept her if I could. I think it's a very pretty color, too.

I was fostering Kevin after a good Samaritan brought him in. He was skeletal, completely emaciated. He had a microchip and we used this to solve his mystery. His owner died 5 years ago; she had no family so the folks who cleaned out her house put him outside. He was subsisting on garbage and whatever he could scavenge when he crawled into a kind woman's yard.

He lost all fat and most of his muscle. He would eat while laying flat on his belly and could not hold his tail up. After weeks of big meals, he is playing and so loving and silly. And,....I'm keeping him. Fell head over heels. He's 11 and now healthy.

I have a soft spot for "train wrecks". This little guy is 12, was hyperthyroid and had two dislocated hips. His owner had to give him up because of the expensive therapies he needed.

He got iodine therapy and surgery for his hips. He's doing all too well. I just love the older cats that need homes; they are so sweet!

Update:

"JK" (not "JT", oops!) has a furever family now. We're getting lots of pictures from his lucky family.

The shelter was full today.

"Butterbean" ...and no, I did not name her! She is listed above as "Sweetie". Still waiting...

"Emily": You can't see her face but I love this picture!

"Prissy", and the name fits. In most of the pictures I took of her she had her mouth open...

"ChaCha" is still waiting...

Fuzzi I had a cat like Sweetie she lived to be 23... and was such a love.

50Mr.Durick
mrt 23, 2014, 9:56 pm

Kitten's mom had the same patchwork coloration as Prissy; I called her Patches. She never did let me touch her, but she was more and more willing to get close to be fed and to get out of the rain. Then she disappeared or was disappeared much as all of her kittens except Kitten. I still miss her although she would have died of old age by now. She was a great mom, and I believe it was because of her that Kitten has survived as long as he has as an outdoor cat.

It’s been a while, I haven’t felt like taking photos much at all lately (except of my Taji & Tilly) - but I completely fell in love with a kitten at The Cat Corner last week, so I took my camera in after work yesterday to get some pics of him before he goes to his new home today :)

This is Rocket:

Isn’t he just divine! I held him & played with him for nearly 2 hours last weekend, the pics don’t do him justice he is just the cutest & sweetest thing, purrs up a storm as soon as you look at him :) He was the runt of the litter born in a pound & had a bit of flu as a baby so VERY lucky to be alive & he may not get too big because of his hard start, but his paws are huge so he just might grow into a BIG boy :) It’s actually lucky for me that he’s so cute & found a home so easily coz if he had’ve hung around TCC for long I would have been seriously tempted to see if my Tilly might accept another cat (which is HIGHLY unlikely)!

Seems that taking his pics has given me back the picture taking bug, I took the following pics of Rocket’s siblings after I’d taken the pics above & I’m planning on going in on Sunday to do a photo shoot :)

This is Rocket’s brother Albus (aka Albert):

This is Rocket’s 1st Sister Gretchen:

This is Rocket’s 2nd Sister Bubble:

I also met this lovely girl Mia who is just spectacular (I’m a BIG fan of smoke coloured cats, especially LH) & ridiculously smoochy:

She was impossible to get a decent photo of tho coz she just wanted to head-but & smooch me! Hopefully I can get something decent of her this weekend :)

& This is our resident older girl Candy:

Candy is about 8 years old & has had a bit of a hard life, she’d been dumped & then we found her a home & then she got returned to us! She also gets depressed if kept in an enclosure, so she currently lives in the kitchen/lunch room at the shelter & as you can see she has made herself quite comfy there, lol :)

Dear >54 Seanie:

It’s been a while, I haven’t felt like taking photos much at all lately (except of my Taji & Tilly)

Even if you don't feel like "snapping kitties" at your shelter all the time, may I suggest another approach to keeping your photography alive which also includes cats. Just something I was suggested some 40+ years ago.

Try and shoot an interesting picture of something/anything which has a hint of CAT somewhere
in the image. Possibly a human portrait with a cat Tail exiting 'stage left'. Not obvious!

Well, you can work out the thought/idea. A hint of Cat is sufficient :-)

Guido.

Mia went to her home before I got there today so no new pics, but happy news for her :)

This is Ali, she's Mum to the kittens above :)

This is Arnie - I've probably posted about him before, he's a BIG lovebug of a boy with a squeaky girly miaow, lol :) He's a bit spesh to me & has quite a story. Someone from my work adopted him then returned him after nearly a year with no real explanation :( Then he got out of the shelter - the only escapee we've ever had, it happened just after we moved & we're still not quite sure how! We put posters out & info on facebook & after a couple of months an old lady called to say she had a cat living on her back porch that might be him, Kerri went to check & it was! We were so wrapped to have him back, but he got quite depressed back at the shelter & got sick so had to recover at Kerri's house for a while. He's back at the shelter now & much happier in an enclosure that he shares with Jace & John :)

These are Arnie's room-mates, Jace:

Isn't his love heart marking cute :)

& John:

This is Minerva, she's prob my current fave at TCC & I might have posted pics of her before. She came in as a feral years ago & spent most of her time on heat for over a year! We just never seemed to be able to co-ordinate a time where either she wasn't on heat or the senior vet (the only one who will do desexing operations while girls are calling) was available. She wasn't extremely aggressive, but did bite & she paced constantly because she was calling so was just a ball of muscle & to be honest a little scary because she was so strong & had the feral temperament. Anyway we finally got her desexed last year & have spent time getting her used to being handled & she has come sooo far :) She's the first one I say hello to when I get to the shelter & I can now pat her easily & even pick her up for cuddles - tho I always turn my face away just in case my nose tempts her to nip, lol, she does still nip sometimes but never hard & its more of an over excitement thing than an aggression thing :)

65guido47
okt 10, 2014, 10:09 am

Hi >64 anna_in_pdx:, Max has a White blaze on his nose and has a Pink Pad (yes I do worry about skin cancer!)
It's funny though, how many MAX look a like cats I do see. A few days ago I went to a/my Cat shelter.
There were 3 cats/kittens that were almost clones of Max. Gray with white Tuxedo markings. Well Max is about 8/9 yo.
Was there a flavour of the month for Max look a likes about 10 years ago?
I went to the shelter to look for a companion for Max and found a 8 yo. female Tortie

She was a stray...but...but is also very overweight (ie. FAT) and has teeth problems (cleaning at least and possibly some extractions)
This suggests she had only been on the streets for a short time. She is very friendly and obviously used to humans.

As always I wonder about her past (no chip, no collar, not surrendered, a stray who was obviously once loved!)

I keep saying I am 'not sure', but obviously I am :-)

I'm just unsure how two middle aged male and female cats will get on.

Guido.

Guido: Congrats on the new addition to your family. She is beautiful. Glad to see she's made herself at home already. How is she getting along with your other one?

Hi >95 framboise:

Max's nose is out of joint since I first locked Buffy in a room with the door ajar. He spent hours outside the room.
After Lizzy died, Max had the whole house to himself. But only for 3 months. This new creature has very quickly taken over.
Buffy is quite cool about Max's growling and very slow and careful prowling (I think he is scared of her) Only 2 scuffles (both at 3am)
over who owns MY bed. I hope they will get on better than Max did with Lizzy. That relationship took at least 2 years
to reach a studied neutrality. Only 8 days so far :-)

Hi Guido, glad to see your new addition. I am sure she and Max will end up getting along.

Update on my clowder: Buzz, my three year old, grooms and sleeps with the "kitten" Apollo who is now about 7 months old. They are absolutely inseparable. It is the cutest thing. Samantha, however, does not really like either of them, and avoids them when at all possible.

Robert, that last picture is just making me melt.

Edgar's Mission actually goes on rescue missions. Here's a video of one. I had to watch it all the way through, but beware, it is thirteen minutes long.

Did I see the update right? Shoney and Hutch are no longer furry cuddle bugs?
So Sad!

110fuzzi
dec 22, 2014, 11:00 am

> yes. Hutch suddenly became sick, and had to be pts. His "mom" is one of our volunteers, and she was terribly upset.

Shoney had UTI issues, and was both adopted and returned, more than once I believe. We had a new volunteer offer to foster him. He had two wonderful weeks in a home, and the volunteer was going to adopt Shoney. And then, he didn't wake up one morning, and we all were devastated.

At least both Shoney and Hutch had some time in a real home, with love and cuddles.

So sad about Shoni & Hutch - its one of the many hard things about rescue, when time & effort & love are invested in a cat that doesn't make it :( But like you said even if it wasn't for a long time, its good that they got some love in a real home before they left for the Rainbow Bridge...

This isn't one of my photos, but a current kitten I'm a bit in love with at TCC

Isn't she divine!

I've always known that I'm drawn to smokes & I've realised that I'm drawn to torti's too - so this smoke torti beauty who purrs as soon as you touch her & loves to be cuddled when she's not bouncing around playing with her siblings is almost the purrfect kitten!

Dear Group,

I have for a long time appreciated Rober Durick's uploading of "cute cats/kittens"and even the occasional hedgehog :-)

Through his links I found cutestuff.co (not com) I have just spent almost an hour looking at úber cute' but the one I thought I wanted to share
with you was bitter sweet. It's OK the end is Nice

http://cutestuff.co/2013/08/a-very-brave-kitten-named-justin/

Guido.

PS. Is it just me or...? Having just got a Tortie, I seem to see Torties everywhere on the Net :-)

ETA. I am aware of the "...the world is full of pregnant women..." observation, but I have already mentioned that MAX cats - Grey with Tuxedo - suddenly
seemed to appear about 10 years ago (in bulk) and now I feel that Tortie's are being breed because they have recently (10 years) become popular?
Your thoughts?

124suitable1
mrt 4, 2015, 11:03 pm

We recently adopted a Tortie. I had not paid much attention before, but I do seem to see a lot now. The other adoption was a Tuxedo kitty.

I would dearly like to see your adopted Cats :-)

I took my camera in to The Cat Corner today for the first time in ages & got a few nice pics :)

Theodore:

Neptune:

Turkish:

Mystery Cat:

Lovey:

Pixie aka Fireworks:

& my fave long termer Minerva:

Gosh I love this lady! She was so happy to see me today, jumping up & arching her back against the enclosure while calling me over, then giving me headbutts (!!!) & smooches - then she had a moment where she remembered she used to be feral & clawed me & hissed, lol :) I know I shouldn't giggle at that but I just love her attitude! There's no actual aggression in her, just moments when she forgets she's friends with people now - & usually its over-stimulation that triggers her...

I have a few more to post but I'm waiting to hear back on their names coz I've forgotten :)

135fuzzi
apr 4, 2015, 7:18 am

They're all beautiful, but Neptune's markings are fascinating, and I love Turkish's uneven socks!

139Seanie

Here are the rest of the pics...

Rosie (silver tabby) & Simone (black & white):

Not great pics as they haven't had much human contact before coming to us so still act quite feral. Simone is pretty shy but Rosie is such a cute lil pretend spitfire - check out that face in the background of Simone's pic, lol :) They can both be handled & don't lash out at all, except for hissing which is actually a bit adorable when you know its all noise, so I think they'll come around & be cuddle cats in not much time :)

Robbie:

George:

Hermioney (yes deliberately spelled wrong for some reason?):

Fred:

& these guys are new to us & dont have names yet:

I'm glad you guys are liking the pics - I like having a place like this to share :) It's been so long since I've felt like taking photos so I'm glad I got some good ones, hopefully the picture taking bug will come back for me :)

#135 fuzzi - I'm a sucker for black smokes too! & Neptune is a big boy so he's very impressive :)

#136 anna_in_pdx - That's tickles behind Turkish & Nicola asleep on the chair in front :)

Neptune is lovely, as are Fred, George, Hermioney, and so many of the others. (I especially love tabbies) And that's a great shot of the two green-eyed cuties in the last picture. Love the mustache on the black & white, and the other has a lovely tabby face.

I've missed your pictures, so glad to see you posting pictures from the Cat Corner again.
